    Al,

The timing cover uses the head gasket to seal that spot.

You can remove the timing cover as you suggested and just add a little silastic to seal it up. While it is off remove the two studs and replace them with bolts to make removing it again later easier ( ie without having to drop the sump)

The novice t series rebuilder will often forget tohavethe timing cover decked with the block to keep them the same height which can cause issues.

I don't know if my patience is a little too short, but I tried test fitting my cover (head on) with the engine on a stand, and decided that wasn't for me. I was having too much grief getting the chain slipper (attached to the cover) up inside the opening for the head.

It might be possible, but I decided it wasn't worth it for me.

    Toyo-al,
There are also 2 dowels used to align the cover with the block, so it can't go straight down. It would have to come out about 5mm from the block before it can go down.
It is also possible that whoever built the engine used a 3T-C headgasket.
In this case, the part of the headgasket that the Toyman is speaking of will not be present, and the seal would be made up of only silicone.

I recently came across what appears to be a used TRD 2TG high volume oil pump from a dead ~2000cc 2TG.
I expected the rotor thickness to be the same as that for the 3TGTE, but it wasn't.
What I found most interesting was the difference in the oil pressure relief valve.
The nut is much longer, and the inside is hollow to allow for a longer spring.
As far as I could tell, the actual plunger is the same.

    Sample of a new one:
    http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n92477257

Given all the discussion, I thought I'd post a couple of photos.
(Apologies for the poor quality, all I had was my phone)

The TRD pump is on the left, and the 3TGTE pump is on the right.

Here is a shot of all 3 pumps (for rotor size comparison). The TRD pump is on the left, the 3TGTE is in the middle, and the 2TG stock pump is on the right.

Oh, and for the next guy who does one of these for the first time, make sure to put the oil pump drive into the hole in the block BEFORE putting the head on.

I think it's the pink wire at the ECU from when I looked at the pinouts, don't think mine actually had one though.

Rough calc says 290ish but you can't really rely on factory speedo's or rev counters, only way to be sure is GPS it. If you want to play around with your gearing etc this spreadsheet might be useful.

ive tried gps before, best reading i got before it went spastic was 190 195 then dropped the satellite.....

BIG Q here guys : ive got a set of 550cc injectors from s5 rx7 ready to go in, custom twin entry exh man for the ct26, planning on 16psi+ , bosch 044 pump from surge forward, planning a custom intake manifold but what are the requirements on the injectors going in??? will it over fuel her, ive got the mt-4 microtech running the fuel set up, malpassi fuel reg, pierburg pick up pump 2ltr surge and a plain silver bosch?? assuming a vl turbo one same size as the pierburg.... i think the 3t has 440cc mits injectors but could just be standard 375's??? im planning on dynoing her soon as everything is in and runningish lol??? but you guys would know more then me as im asking (pretty green to all this)

any help here is appreciated and more then welcome to answer anything ive left out.... i had 145rwkw with the extremely crap ct20 running 18psi, forged internals that previous owner did as same with fuel system, big avo intercooler ect ect.... im just hoping and hoping with custom manifolds and the ct26 off the gt4 (twin entry-twin internal gates) + the 550cc inj and bigger fuel pump.... 200rwkw + ???
