    like i said,
    ALL PARTS ARE ACQUIRED @
my friend's "I CAN'D USE THIS ANYMORE PARTS" LOCKER.
it actually better spindle since the ae86 spindle is skinny at the end. unlike the s13 one. is beefy. alignment is still the same and all dimensions is still actual same measurements with the ae86. lowering the car wise i have more travel on shock strut since its a full tap and i can adjust the dampenning in the car because i use EDFC. my japanese friend(time attack driver) set the edfc up @ 3 levels of dampening. so its just a botton press away you can drive it like a normal to track settings.

as a project using what you have, i think its a pretty clever way of making use of skills and parts available.

that being said, its a lot of effort for little gain imo, BUT i dont see any inherrant problems so long as the adaptor plate is the correct material and the offset has been taken into account through the stearing range.

the dimensions and play from the ae86 strut and the new suspension utilized is the same since i used the ae86 lower control arm and tierod plate. there is no issues on full turn to left and right. the alignment is perfect.
im not saying that this project have to be done. my point is to show everyone that this could be another way on saving money obtaining a big brake upgrade on ae86. s13 conversions were put out and well effective. its just that i thought it would be nice to do another option on a s13 brake upgrade. i think cutting and welding is dangerous on a lower control arm which is illegal in the states.

It's illegal to modify any cast suspension component in Australia. Cast parts that end up with a machined face are always cast very close to the shape they're being machined to. Done right the surface once machined will still have a linear crystal lines in the right shear planes to hold the brittle cast structure together. Throw a brake rotor on the ground the wrong way and it cracks.

the brakes are only as good as the tires capability to hold up under those loads....

I'm not saying a big brake kit is a total waste of time(in a rwd Corolla), but the stock GTS stuff works pretty well with proper pads and rotors, decent lines, and fresh fluid.

not with heavy repeated actions and good sticky rubber. They go off quite quickly under these circumstances.

with my old adm brakes... solid rotors single piston, i would make 3 or 4 good corners of nebo descent, overhauled and fresh rotors, pads and fluid, 4 or 5 corners.

vented jdm upgrade almost to the bottom befor it went off...

vented s13 brakes, same piston size but dramatic increase in rotor size, never got close to fade, even after laps at qr in high heats.

The problem with slide calipers, imo , with sticky tires, under repeated big braking situations like on a race track with a big stop lap after lap, the flex introduced in the slide caliper can cause pads to get jammed etc etc. Then an upgrade to twin or 4 piston calipers can be beneficial.

in pure street conditions, then yeah standard good condition jdm brakes are perfectly suitable

but looking at the pics of his car, im guessing it isnt regular street applications this is designed for.

also agree with bill re weight, but there are many lightweight rotors options for the s13 stuff....

I just used RA28 struts in my KE70 ute, bigger stub (fits 5 stud MS63/65/75 hubs) and easy flat caliper brackets for whatever brake upgrade you want. I ended up with late model alloy LS400 4 pots and 315mm discs.

i planned on going to five lug conversion but i love my te37v's. it fits real good on my rolla. and my gt-r brakes. im pretty happy. hard braking on 6 hour touge. HACHIOJI-SHIZU-OKA. this conversion is an A++ grade. very happy on the turn out. the milling-shop did a good job milling my s13 spindle to fit the lower control arm of my 86. with the tein flex. cant ask for more. than a touch of a botton inside the cockpit to tune suspension with the edfc.

gee wiz, a bunch of haters on here

at least they tried something different, and no real reason why it would not be good, apart from weight... but not everywhere in the world has Sydney potholes

lucky they are not in Aus

you mean columnar grains right? and cast structures, particularly steering knuckles, are not always what you would call "brittle". in this case you would classify them as "tough"

sorry buddy, but your metallurgical advice leaves a bit to be desired

I do think it is a valid point given this is an Oz based forum to point out where mods may not be legal in the country of most forum users, I believe this mod is likely to be frowned on in NZ too. Definitely worth seeing different ways of tackling the issues with KE70/AE86 gear though.

i think this is very effective swap. is just that acquiring s13 spindles is a bit easier to find here in japan. than those plates online for sale is very hard to get in here. knowing the language barriers, shipping issues. so, when i looked @ my friend's locker with the ae86 parts. we sat it down and designed to make a swap that would be beneficial. i cant afford to buy $2000 worth of wilwood so. machine shop is free and parts are free. $100 was spent other than above. with the idea of using a r32 master cylinder. the brakes worked real well. some guys online will like it, some don't. im just a normal guy want to share my knowledge to everyone with a different options on brake swaps for ae86 suspension. \
i will post more better photos with the break down shown so it will be viewed better as soon as i can get a lift-stall @ the auto hobby shop.
