Where do you live?
Breaker bars can be had pretty cheap, $30 - $40 for a 1/2 inch drive with lifetime warranty... well worth the investment if you are going to be working on cars in the future.

Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
I'm trying to remove a pair of very stubborn drive shaft nuts atm, i have managed to snap a sidchrome half inch fixed rachet with a pole over the end of it.
I'm wondering if anyone can lend/rent me a decent breaker bar or rattle gun?

Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
funny you mention this, i broke my breaker bar a few days ago trying to do the same thing, i bit the bullet and went out and bought a rattle gun and it got it with ease...
if you were in SA id let you borrow it...

Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
Get a cheap socket , weld it on to a 30cm flat or angle bar and hit it with a hammer.

Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
Yeah they can be pretty awful to get off, especially since the nut is so small, I always had problems of it just slipping. Big rattle guns seem to work, breaker bar with another bar attached to it, locktight has a spray that freezes the bolt (I bought some recently and it didn't seem to do much although I've heard its pretty good)

Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
I use a 1/2" breaker bar with a 1m length of steel pipe on the end of that. Put it on, and stand/bounce on the steel pipe. Haven't broken anything yet, and done it multiple times. Even used a super cheap auto socket, and it was fine. Maybe keeping the angles perfectly square helps to prevent breakages? I use mostly sidchrome gear.

make sure u use a 7 point socket too, not a 12 point or whatever they are

				A 7 point socket ay?
I have no idea how you guys break stuff like you do
Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
An impact socket will never break, and if you use a 3/4" socket, I doubt you will break your bar either

Re: Tools to remove drive shaft nuts.
ive used a jbs (tools work bought for me, im a kingchrome man at heart) 1/2 drive breaker bar, its done harmonic balancers (using starter motor undo method) and many drivehaft nuts (with long extensions).
point being decent tools last.
