I never hooked up the cold start injector on my 4AGE and i never, ever had a problem starting it (in Melbourne) so that in itself shouldn't be a problem.
Hi, i have a 92' jdm gen 2 3sge from a st182 celica that has no cold start injector.
I also have an ecu that was suppose to be from japan, its for an mr2 suits gen 2 3sge, but it has a pin labeled (STJ) Cold Start Injector. I am trying to use this ecu to run my gen 2 3sge. Initially, i was told that any gen 2 3sge ecu will run any gen 2 3sge no matter if it was from an mr2 or celica. I am trying to run this ecu that has a cold start injector pin for an engine that doesn't have a cold start injector.
I live in Australia, its never going to see freezing temperatures.
I'm having trouble getting this car to 'fire' up when i know i got fuel and spark. so i assumed whether it was no initial cold start injecting or perhaps timing... I got fuel pumping at the filter... and i got spark from the coil.
any help appreciated.
Chris.

may pay to do a comparison of the pin-outs between what you had and what you've got... just elimenate any possible differences between the two, other than the cold start. Check your injectors too to make sure they're pulsing, and make sure your timing is good.

If you have a check and cannot use anything factory, there is a temperature controller made by Jaycar that would be suitable as a retrofit controller.

Similar story here. I unplugged the cold start injector on my 4AGZE and never had issues with cold start/running engine. Standard the early 4AGZE's run pretty rich at idle and low speed/load (no closed loop idle when up to temperature), I'd guess a similar approach would have been used in all other models of that era (mines an '88).

thanks for all the feedback and help guys, thats excellent.
well now that i know that i shouldn't need a cold start injector, i won't fuss. I will check the injectors and the timing on the weekend.
As for pin out differences (from what engine i have and what ecu i have)...
the ecu has a few 'extra' pins that aren't needed, they are as follows:
- EGW: Catalytic Convertor Temp Warning Light (for combination meter)
- PS: Power steering
- PSCT: Power steering
- STJ : Cold start Injector
- CCo: Check connector outputs (IS THIS IMPORTANT?) i got no home for this pin on the ecu.
( i believe the sw20 mr2's had variable pressure power steering or something depending on speed on cornering or sumfin.. regardless anyways its irrelevant to my st162 celica with the gen 2 3sge)
this car so better not break too soon after doing all this crap... lol. Otherwise i'm gonna be spewin! This little project has been a first efi engine transplant and its been a steep learning curve. I luv this stuff.... when it works...

i'll check my BGB wiring diag when i get home today for the NA sw20.......pretty sure they didnt have CSI only the early 89-93 turbo ones had CSI
Thanks Jonathan. much appreciated.
Its a jdm ecu, 'apparently' 90's 3sge mr2.
st185 GT4 309 hp 12.4s 1/4 mile 16psi
so the wiring loom you have is from which car/motor?
here's the thing, with the 3sgte mr2's they changed the ecu's from 89-91/92-93 whilst retaining essentially the same motor(gen2 3sgte) it's also the same deal with the gt4's.
looking thru my BGB wiring diags for the NA mr2 the pinouts are slightly different between the 89+ manual to the dec 91+ manual. which leads me to think that they did the same.
they both list a STJ pin B7 or B10 but looking thru toyodiy and the manifolds and the fuel rail i have there is no provision for a CSI, not even a water temp switch for one?
i have a 93 mr2 ecu here will pull the cover off and have a quick gander at, i'll put a post up for you on the mr2 forums asking if anyone's 89-91 mr2 3sge has CSI
popped the lid on the 93 3sge ecu, the pin which according to the BGB should be STJ has EVP printed on it, and there's no STJ printed on the board at all.
HI Jonathan. The wiring loom is from a 1992-93 st182 celica (jdm) 3sge.
Thanks for your help again. As always its very much appreciated. Yea i popped open the lid on my 90' mr2 3sge ecu and on the 26P plug, 4th one across at top, it has STJ printed on the circuit board. I won't stress not having a cold start after the feedback.
Its just interesting though, certainly appears they went through quite a number of revisions.

OH it was an AUTOMATIC st182 3sge celica.
If that makes much of a difference in regards to the loom (which extra wires wise it did, + it had cruise control, alot of which has been eliminated). According to the pinout i have for st182 it simply means a heap of wires are just cut/ignored...
there wasn't many variations in pinouts during the st182 series by any chance?
This is the pinout i been using:

that pin diagram has quite a few differences to what's on my sw20 93 ecu.... mainly on the 26 pin plug. so i'd say thats the pre dec 91
Ah! maybe thats why me circuitry isn't working.
As i am using that diagram as a reference to what my plugs are for in my loom (not for the ecu). It was the st182 link you were refering too?
Maybe thats where i went wrong.
Has anyone got a 93' diagram url? i will google and see what i can come up with...

unfortunately that pinout is on the engine transmission BGB i think as it's not on the elec diag i have, got big fold out pages but not the trouble shooting thing that the other bgb has.
i'll see if i can scan some pages at work or something. or i can draw it i guess.......hah.
