Some manufacturer may still make them like they used to, with a threaded rod in the center that makes it easily adjustable.

I have to ask why you want a lower minimum temperature?

engine builder and very experienced racer suggested it may be a way to keep my fluctuating temperatures under control. along with a few other things. im racing Bathurst over Easter so i want to have have one in my spare parts kit to throw in if she starts misbehaving and see if has any effect.

i didnt think lower temp thermostats were any more expensive than factory spec ones.

road and track stocked various temp thermostats last time i checked

is it fluctuating at temp, or while warming up? or from low to warm temps?

tried drilling a 3mm(ish) hole in the stat to have small but continuous flow until it opens?

It's fluctuating at operating temp, at Oran park, it would be perfect all the way around the track untill just. Before the last corner then it would rocket up.

I'll try the dayco idea 2 c if anything fits. The 3mm hole was an idea sugested, I have one drilled ready to try if it starts missbehaving!

fairly sure all toyotas are 52mm which is good as dayco do sell a 73 degree thermostat from memory in that size

temp going up has nothing to do with thermostat..
thermostat just stops temps going down. if the thermostat is full open at 78deg or 85deg, if the temp is 90 and then goes up to 110 (for example) the thermostat has no effect

the hole thing just helps to stop the temp going down, from when the stat suddenly opens and floods engine with cold coolant from radiator.. keeps it a more constant temp while the thermostat is still closed

perhaps the water pump is frothing up the coolant too much?
are you losing coolant at all?

perhaps it is just lack of cooling capacity (got the rad sealed so no air can escape around it?)
