    Default fuel pumps...?

about to start the hilux conversion.... long delayed, am looking at getting a wilbro 255 LPH fuel pump off ebay as they are cheap. just wondering if anyone here has used them and what they are like. it will be modded to fit inside the fuel tank.
    cheers, Drew.

My Walbro was fine in my car. Was a little noisy, particularly when hot, but didn't give me any grief at all. They're a universal fit, so they're designed to easily be adapted into in-tank situations.

    pet peeve of mine.......

Are you making between 500 and 600 hp? No, then you have NO NEED for a 255 lph pump....

For general specifications, calculate your horsepower peak.... divide that hp peak by 2.0 (for a boosted engine), OR 2.3 (for an n/a engine) and that is how many liters you'll need. You can fine tune the volume needed from here.... but this calculation will get you in the ball park

Correct, it's not necessarily needed, but given the relative cost of them versus the peace of mind of knowing you'll never have to worry about it, what's the problem?

as I stated in 1st post... pet peeve, so there is no problem... but why use a 255 when Walbro makes other volume pumps....

For instance, in my 4AGE powered AE71, I'm using the OEM replacement pump from the Honda/Acura Integra with the 1.8. That walbro pump has an output of 115lph @ the same pressure as the AE86 pump does(but the AE86 pump delivers only 80lph)

115lph is almost a perfect match... AND I avoided the noisey, excessive 255 racing pump in favor of a quieter OEM replacement(not for my app... but still someones OEM replacement) that fits the bill and does the job properly.

Btw... frequently the Walbro 255 is sold as a racing part.... and because of this it is often cheaper.... but "racing" parts are often not warranteed, and if it fails... you are SOL. Part of the reason the other pumps cost more is there is a built in failure cost per unit added into the total. Because of this it is FAR easier to get a warrante replacement on an OEM pump then the 255....

I know this last bit(from Btw... on) because I worked relatively closely with a few Walbro employees, here in the USA.

well that really depends on what the stock pump is. Also, i got mine from twosrus. Pretty cheap, but only cause i got a heap of stuff at the same time with another person.

They work great but they are noisy, just be careful you don't get a fake buying off Ebay.

o.k quick update, the engine is a 2jzge, the fuel pump speed is normally controlled by the fuel pump ecu.
i dont have the fuel pump ecu which does not matter as i will be running a tachometeric relay to control fuel pump speed, would like and prefer to run an oem pump from anything else just for the sake of keeping it quiet but due to the size of the in the fuel tank of the hilux being small i am somewhat restricted by this, i have thought of running an external pump an leaving the pick up as is.
thanks for all your input and any sugestions welcome.
    Cheers Drew.

the 255 is only about 220ish(?) at 40psi, and less with boost, so they are nto as overkill as you may think.
the next one down is 190L, but is more like 150-160 at 40psi...

edit: there is very little chance the "Holley" branded Walbros are fakes
