    Post Motorkhana Interest?

I'm looking into Motorkhana events for 2006, and may have 2 other drivers with nice 70 Celicas who've done it before looking to form a team to enter events throughout the year.

Originally the plan was to get 6 cars to compete in the 4 car MC Team Motorkhana Championship, so we had at least a couple of "reserve" cars to cover times when someone couldn't make it. Unfortunately a couple of people who were keen are moving interstate or overseas, leaving the 3 of us, which is a little tight.

So, if anyone's interested, we might be able to combine to have a good number of people so that as a team, we're in each event, but not everyone has to go to every event.

Anway, here's some info on the Championships so far:

    MC Motorsport Autotest Championship:
    Cost $70 per entry
I think as a Team event, this is for teams of 4, but have to check?
License: AASA club license or CAMS 2NS
    8 Rounds
    AM and PM sessions available
Side-by-side action at AHG Airport complex
    Six challenges per round
Trophies for each class (6 categories as below)
    Categories:
    A - up to 2000cc (restricted)
AO - up to 2000cc (open)
    B - 2001 to 3600cc (restricted)
    BO - 2001 to 3600cc (open)
    C - 3601cc+ (restricted)
    CO - 3601cc+ (open)
D - all wheel drive vehicles (restricted)
DO - all wheel drive vehicles (open)

Notes: Apply a multiplication factor of 1.7 to your engine if turbocharged or 1.5 if supercharged. Eg My 1600cc (actually 1588cc) times 1.7 is 2720cc (B or BO class)

    Dates:
    12-Feb-06
    12-Mar-06
    14-May-06
    09-Jul-06
    13-Aug-06
    10-Sep-06
    08-Oct-06
    12-Nov-06

    State Motorkhana Championship
Not sure of the cost, but probably similar
    License would be CAMS 2NS
I think Mitch said this was teams of 3?

    Dates:
    Beginners Event AM 26-Mar-06
    SMC1 PM 26-Mar-06
    SMC2 03-Jun-06 (Albany)
    SMC3 02-Jul-06
    SMC4 13-Aug-06
    SMC5 07-Oct-06
Venues for all are TBA, but in Perth Metro, except SMC2.

    MaxAuto Action Series
    Venue: Carpark Belmont Raceway (Burswood)
Again, think the cost is $50-70 per event?
    Licence: CAMS 2NS

    Dates:
Rnd 1: Jan 28/29 - fully booked (I'll be going to have a look, feel free to join me)
    Rnd 2: Feb 19 - 3 PM spots left
    Rnd 3: Mar 18 - 4 AM and 5 PM spots left
Rnd 4: Apr 16 (might move to Apr 9) - 4 AM and 8 PM spots left
    Rnd 5: May 28 - 2 AM and 5 PM spots left
Rnd 6: Finals June 18 - 1 AM and 7 PM spots left

If it all gets too difficult, I might just try and get along to a few events this year to research what's involved, and do some driver training and more prep work so as to get involved in 2007. But if any of this interests you, let me know, and if you have a preferred series. I'll chat with Mitch when I've got an idea of interest to see what is the best option.

Possibly interested as a reserve after May, busy till then unless you're totally desperate - got plenty of cars to compete in, but not alot of time spare..

If you visit the CAMS web site it has a list of affiliated car clubs. Prices seem to be from around $30 upwards to over $100 for WASCC at Wanneroo (but they give you access to track open days, etc.)

So, you need to join a CAMS-affiliated club (say $40), then apply for the CAMS license itself ($46). Details of the CAMS 2 NS license are:

Use a Level 2 Non Speed (2NS) to compete in:
+ motorkhana and khanacross events up to International level
    + observed section trials
+ touring road events which contain no closed road sections and no non-race speed sub-events
+ touring assemblies and non-timed road events
    + drifting events

    Pre-requisites
    Medical
+ Complete Health Statement on application form

    Age
+ You must be at least 18 years of age. A junior licence is available for those between 12 and 17 inclusive. You need to be 12 years to compete in Motorkhana. You need to be 16 to compete in Khanacross, unless you have competed in Motorkhana before in which case the minimum age is 14.

    Cost
    $46 (Junior $11)

    Filling out the application form
New Level 2 Non Speed holders
    1. Check here to download the Level 2 licence application form.
    2. Fill out and return the form to your club or CAMS Member Services.
    3. Providing your application is filled out correctly, your Level 2NS licence will be sent to you.

    Level 2NS Renewals
Fill out and return the renewal form sent to you. If you have not received your renewal forms, contact Member Services on 1300 653 529

Some people have mentioned a CAMS 2S for $85 that lets you compete in both 2NS (non-speed) and 2S (speed) events (like hillclimbs), so I guess which you'd want would depend on if you're keen on the motorkhanas and/or hillclimbs.

I don't know much about Hill Climbs yet, other than the one I saw in Albany looked like fun and had some nice cars.

Personally, I'm considering the following clubs, but each and others have their own strengths, etc.

WACC - WA Car Club in Wattle Grove (off-road rally oriented)
AFARCC - All Fours And Rotaries Car Club (Bayswater)
WASCC - WA Sports Car Club (Wanneroo) - membership varies and have lots of options, but a long way from me.
MCC - Mini Car Club - reasonable membership and organises the State Motorkhana Championship.

There were a couple of other possibilities, but this was my short-list. As I said, the list is on the CAMS site: http://www.cams.com.au/

But as I said, this is currently my personal list that seems to suit my location/interests.

MCC will no longer accept membership purely for CAMS requirements, use the CCCR for this from now on.

I was with the WACC last year, although I wasn't competing, they were good people, and the membership fee is only about $50, they organise a lot of rally events in WA, provide a lot of marshalls etc.

I'm interested in khanacross, I'm going to try to get an A/TE71 built for NS events this year, probably a 3T-TE with a good cam and a CA18 turbo, should be a torque monster, and as the T18 was available with the 1.8L, legality should be a cinch.

I would also be interested in this, depending upon who else was entering and of course the nitty gritty details.
Do we compete as a team and against other teams? or do we form a team but compete for ourself?
And is the racing more of a quickest time wins scenario or a most consistant time wins scenario. Im more keen if its the first, quickest time wins, as i rather be busting a gut to get the quickest time rather than concentrating tryin to be consistant

So im basically hoping for a team vs team scenario with quickest team wins, obviously classes will come into it, to even up the cars/teams......... i assume??

    Cheers

I'm still checking out each of the comps, but the MC one is the only full team one, where teams of 4 (minimum) compete against other teams like WRX, MX5, Porsche teams, etc.

Sounds like the other 2 are individual, but have some possibility of team/groupings.

It's fastest around the course with penalties for things such as hitting cones, going off, having to reverse, etc.

From what I can tell, my preference is either the MC team comp or the MaxAction one.

What do you think? I like the idea of a team of 4 cars, running as Old Skoot Toys or just Team Toyota or something?

mc's course is very small suits small/4wd cars. Max-action at belmont area is huge great for a variety of cars.

Based on feedback to my post on expressions of interest, here's what I think is best in terms of organising a Motorkhana team...

We'll enter the MaxAuto Action series starting in July. There is a series starting this weekend and running until June, but I think we need more time to get organised. So, for all of those interested, can you drop me a line to say "count me in". You don't have to compete in all the events if you don't want either, just let me know what you want to do. Also gives people a chance to head down and check things out and see if they're interested. I'm going down on Saturday morning (Belmont Park carpark) to see how it goes.

So, basically you'd need to organise a minimum CAMS 2NS license, which would involve being a member of a CAMS-affiliated car club. Price for this would cost around $80 all up (club and license with the cheaper options).

Have a Toyota that you'd like to compete in.

Enter the series or individual events. Costs $68 per event on the day, or $10 off per event if you book for the whole series and pay in advance (5 rounds and finals). Need the usual helmets, long clothing, etc.

Basically, this series is an individual competition, where the fastest time around the course, including penalties/handicaps determines the winner. And there are classes for different types/age of vehicles, with winners in each.

As for our team, well we enter as individuals, but indicate when we compete that we are part of team "XXXX", then at the end of the series a winning team can be determined on points. So, assuming others enter as teams, that's how we'll be compared. This means people can enter events as they wish, and yet be part of the team if they are there. Relieves some of the pressure of trying to organise enough numbers for each event. Still, it would be good to have a minimum of 3 people for each event.

    Dates are:
    July 16
    August 20
    September 17
    October 15
November 18 and 19 (choice between Sat AM, Sun AM or PM)
    December 10 - finals

All bar the November dates, allow us to choose to compete AM or PM. So, think about which you prefer.

I have lots of other information for those that indicate an interest. There is also a Yahoo group for this series you may want to join/subscribe to:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MaxActionGroup/

    Team name-wise, do people like?
    - Team Toyota
    - Toyota Team Perth (TTP)
    - Old Skool Toys (OST)
    - Tarmac Toyotas

Or some other clever name? Baring in mind some people may not be OST people (although highly encouraged!)

Mitch and I are planning on competing in our Celicas, and possibly have 2 others (Stepho and Clint) with Celicas also. Matty, Adam and I think Rob indicated they might have been interested? And Damo, if he gets over his desire to win or not compete at all

Very good Matty! Glad to have you on board.

Eldar, sorry to hear that (we didn't get organised quickly enough - unless some of us feel like a one-off run this series with Eldar?). Maybe when you get back? Hopefully, something like this may be a regular thing? See how it goes...

I'm curious to see how the name voting goes ;-)
