I do believe the dampers from the AE86 will fit on most of the older models as well ( i know they work in xE7x, and xE5x models)
Are you looking for adjustability????
Hey all,
I've been researching and looking at different options for strut inserts for KE10-KE70's (running standard struts with a 1.5" dia strut insert) and am interested to see what inserts people are running that they've had success with? If any!!
I've got a couple of options which may work, namely AW11 rear, Tercel front?, but I'm interested to hear of anyone's setup thats been done which actually works. Dont think there's much that can be done with such a small (1.5" dia) insert.
Cheers

Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
i believe the 86 struts are the wider diameter.... i've just upgraded to these from the standard ke70 ones so that i have some more strut options for lowered suspension.
i happen to have a spare set of 86 Struts if your interested in them?
AE86 are the larger diameter inserts and won't fit. To run AE86 inserts in a KE70, you need to convert the strut itself so that you can fit the bigger insert

Hmmmmmm, not sure where your guys info is from... but Gabriel, and a few other shock companies show the same damper listing all the way back to 1974!
Take a look around, it might just be US models.... Here is the link to Gabriel; - http://www.partcat.com/gabriel/

From the info I've gathered, KE10-KE70 use a 38.1mm (1.5") diameter insert with a 48mm strut tube, whereas TE70 / AE86 onwards use a 42mm insert and have a 51mm strut tube.
Pretty sure that KE10 inserts are approx 20mm or so longer than KE20-KE70 though. So if you run one KE20 onwards in a KE10, you should get slightly shorter stroke, providing you shorten the strut tubes. It's not really short enough though, so 85-87 AW11 rears would be the go. These are around 50mm-70mm shorter than KE20-KE70 so would make a good conversion.
This is all based on numbers i've looked up, and about 100 forum searches though, and I'm still trying to get exact dimensions of AW11 inserts to confirm (diameter in particular), but that's why it'd be good if someone thats done a similar conversion could confirm...?
Also pretty sure that only the 85-87 AW11 rear inserts will work though as the 87-89 rears use a larger 42mm? diameter.

i have seen someone who was running some kind of koni shock in the smaller ke70 strut but i have no idea what they where originally listed for.
the early AW11 inserts will fit in the smaller struts and are similar in length dimensions to the SW20 inserts.
The only thing i would be cautious of is that the reduced OD body also means a smaller shaft OD of around 18mm (21mm for sw20) which could be easily bent in a motorsport application (depending on your planned usage)
Cheers
