Hey all, picked up a fair bit of AW11 4age gear including the loom and ECU. I also have a JDM AE86 ECU with fucked loom which eventually is going into a KE70.
Now, my question is... The plugs to the ECU are the same but I was under the belief that the AW11 4AGE was AFM so how different are the two looms? Is it simply a matter of splicing one or two things into the loom to enable using the AFM loom with a MAP sensor set up and then running that with the AE86 ECU?
I think that makes sense,
Cheers.
You could probably make it work by using the AW11 loom and changing a few wires to account for the MAP sensor rather than the AFM.
However I would strongly suggest stripping the loom back and running each wire from each sensor/device nicely back to the ECU. You'll learn exactly how the loom is set up (much better for fault finding later) and can make it neat with all wires the right length.
Also if the pinouts of the ECUs are different (can easily check that at club4ag tech section) then you will have to repin the ECU plugs to make it work.
I've used each method (once run things properly, once reused an existing loom with minimum modifications) and within a year the re-used loom got stripped and done properly.

something to be aware of JDM aw11's were MAP sensored.both in pre 86 (3rib) and post 86 (7rib) flavours.
so you may have a map sensored ae86 (3rib) ecu and one of the aw11 map looms.. ADM aw11's were all AFM as were jap SC aw11's
Ok cheers. Part number suggests that the ECU is definetly an AFM one. And the pin outs(which I didn't even think to look up...) are fairly damn different so I guess it's either run my own loom or get another one.
Doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun wiring m own loom though but we'll see how things turn out.
Case dismissed!
thanks
just a thought after reading through... im not sure the afm ecu has a provision for a knock sensor.... if your even planning on running one.

looms aren7t hard.. just sit down with the diagrams and work out which wire goes where and why... then turn that into wire
ok, not that easy, but no need to shy away from it.. there is a fair bit of documentation around

yes tons and tons, hate to say the cliche but "patience is the key" some electrical experience helps but logic is the most important tool.
