Does anyone know if a 22re has had a sc14 attached to it, what would be needed for the process.
a super charger? ha ha.
I think i've read about someone in the us doing this b4 or maybe it was turbo.

you would need brackets to mount the SC, pulleys (spare section on crank pulley? longer belt and altered path of stocker?), and piping..... IC would be good.
it' s a little small for big performance, but should be able to get sayyy 6-8psi for the revs the R is likely to use... make it more torquey but worth the effort?

shouldnt be to hard the 22RE had aircon right? that bracket could come in handy
yanks have been modifying these truck motors for a long time. turbo and supercharged.
sometimes you haev to work with what you have![]()
and also, why not... bit of fun perhaps

phobia on these forums has a 22rTe its succesful to a point, the head being the limiting factor if I remember correctly.
I suggest giving him a PM and checking with him as to whats easy/worth it. Thats what this forum is here for, to learn from others mistakes, I mean experience![]()
i just like to stir him up!Originally Posted by oldcorollas

Use USA ebay and buy some forged "turbo" pistons for cheap, with the standard 22R-E head it will make 9.0:1 compression ratio, perfect for low boost.
All the information you need is on google (as posted above), as its been done many times before in the usa.
Good luck.

IMO it's a great idea if you want a super-torquey engine for towing stuff in your Hilux, but if you're after performance it's a crap idea.
Mechanically setting it up is pretty straightforward (but not necessarily easy), do as described above. I'd recommend decent engine management if you want to get the best out of it, even just a $1000 Microtech would be a huge improvement over fudging the stock management.

dont knock it unless youve tried it...
i know your on celica-gts.com find 83GTCoupe on there and send him a PM or have a look
for his write up, he has a Supercharger on his RA64 and has gotten some great results
(not his only mod though) they do make a full S/C kit and turbo for the celica![]()

yeah thats matts car there, i think hes running 5psi atm but will be up at 10psi as soon
as he gets back from work (cruise ship)
he does actully get pretty good times with his celica compared to what a stock celica
gets which is around the 20sec 1/4mile

Compared to what, turboing instead?
I think he wants to leave the bottom end stock... so no changing compression etc.
So that immediately gives a fairly low boost limit.
A SC14 will give enough boost to probably push the boundaries of detonation at stock compression, esp with a pulley ratio of near 2:1.
So no advantages for going for a turbo for higher top end boost.
He is also willing to ditch the aircon (i think) and put the SC14 in its place, which should also make supercharging easier and cheaper to setup than a turbo.

take the head off give the squash pad a hit with the die grinder thicker head gasket tada! lowered cr and if you want to go to the extent of changing cams even better and run a water injection and detonation is no longer your foe
i mean really if your got a grinder and a set of tools it's a farily easy job which would cost how ever much a hg goes for
22r isnt no 2jzgte UelH but it can punch out the numbers if the person knows what his doing reallitvly cheap just look at every one else who hasnt been so luck to get twin camed engines the datto boys punch out crazy numbers from the l series motors all ya gotta do is to get it to flow and that means rip that crappy head off it a sorce a 20r head from the states or were ever
" dont nock it till you've tryed it" i mean has anyone one really built a 22r proper? it's got the cc's and it's got the strength just needs a few fiddles

Norbie wasn't saying turbocharge it. He was saying don't bother as it's a 22RE.Originally Posted by MWP

If you actually have to BUY a supercharger, then all the shit to make it work... it might be an improvement but you're really better off putting up with the 22R until you can (a) afford a better motor or (b) afford a better vehicle in standard form (eg. a 3RZ hilux)
