I don't know why the marked part numbers are 21000 there is no reference to this in the parts catalogue, ALL carbies start with 21100 , 21000 is not allocated..

Mikunis fitted below to my original high performance pre-pollution TOYOTA engine 18R095125 with the Toyota designed head and the small head bolts.
21000-88232 and 21000-88233 have never been separated.
40MM Mikuni-SOLEX.
Exactly as depicted in Engine rebuild book 8-21 Fuel System 18RG Carburettor SOLEX.
The choke cable is stranded wire and extends through to both carbies and is secured by screw down pressure, which eventually wrecks the cable and it shreds.
Set below are possibly an ex Celica GT? Ex API and post pollution.
Designated as 40PHH, Type T. This unit was OEM for Toyota, hence - Type T
The fuel hose clamp shows the set came from an engine with mechanical fuel pump (18RG or 18RGR/U)
Note different carbie tops with some sort of diaphragm mechanism or dash pot bleed down, suggesting later model post-pollution carbie from GU engine?
Barrels are marked 21000-88255 and 21000-88254.
The choke mechanism is different and the tops are certainly different.
Choke cable stops at Left and single aluminium bar extends across to right and is fixed to both choke bars, with the different method in activation of the manual Choke.
21000-88225 and unknown second mate.
Show at top above the unknown set for comparison.
The choke mechanism is as per the RT104 with a notched indent locator.
Venturis have been removed and the design matches the Toyota engine rebuild diagrams.
TOP: 21100- 18RG 18RGR 73-08 to 75-11 Wire choke connections single bolt holding jet cover on, ex 210 heads.
Bottom:
18RGU carbie 75-12 onwards Choke Rod and lever action multi screws holding jet cover on.

Good to see others with some enthusiasm for the good old Solex.
One correction to make about the sizing of the 40 and 44mm Solex/Mikuni.
The size is defined by the bore diameter at the throttle plate.
To convert a 40mm Solex to a 44mm Solex, one would have to bore the diameter out at that end of the unit to 44mm diameter and also source and fit 44 (#175) throttle plates and throttle shafts to suit.
Now if Sean is still working then he is indeed the man to contact about these Solexes.
I too have made good use of his services and knowledge over the years.

Regarding the Type T version.
I have just successfully rebuilt one of mine with kits provided by Rodger.
I'd heard someone mention them not being repairable as well, but not sure why that would be. The friend helping me do mine had regularly worked with webber sidedrafts plus many other brands and didnt think anything was abnormal with these except for the extra diaphragm on the top being a bit of a waste of time if the rest of the pollution gear is missing.(Rodger also mentioned this to me as well)
I am thinking of taking photos of the pulled apart carby this weekend when I do the front one for reference sake on these Type T's

If you wanted to bore out the 40s to 44, use the ones with the older style bodies, as teh castings are pretty much identical.
Having said that, I haven't done it, and if I were to, I would bore out a rooted one first to make sure I didn't run into any holes.

I've seen a few 3S-GE's and GTE's with a Yamaha sticker on the side of the top timing cover, but I've noticed that not all of them have it. It was just a black sticker with a white "YAMAHA" and Yamaha logo before it, so I guess they can easily fall off with age.Originally Posted by The Witzl

Mikuni PHH
Mikuni bought the Solex PHH license in the early 1970s and thoroughly redesigned it since then. The only parts in common between these two carbs is the diaphragm accelerator pump arrangement. The Mikuni now resembles a cross between a Weber DCOE and a Solex. They are the "set and forget" sidedrafts. Their flow rates aren't quite as high as the Webers, which is why they're not favored by racers, and jet availability is not as good. (Mikuni North America is the primary jet supplier). reference: bimmers.com

I recently obtained an early 80's TRD parts book, and to my surprise all of the Carbie upgrades were for Dellorto Carbs. No Webers or Solex carbs just Dellorto's. The book covered "K" "T" "R" "A" and "M" series engine were all featured. There were no EFI options only Dellorto carbs. Makes me feel good as I have these fitted to one of my engines.
So even though Solex carbs were factory, TRD were pushing the Italian made Dellorto's.

I'm also a big fan of the old solex carburettors. I have a pair of the "second style of 40PHH, Type T" carburettors shown in the last pic of RT104GT's first post on my 2tg.
Did they ever come out on the 2tg or just the 18rg? The paragraph below leads me to believe no.

I have had 2 pairs of these carburettors and I found them to sound a bit louder than my friends more commonly found solex carburettors in the first pictures, although this is just in my experience.
I have just fitted ram tubes on mine, although the tubes leave the choke air inlets unfiltered so I will need to seal them off or make some kind of filter.

In answer did they use them on 2TG, yes sir. In fact my motley unmatched pair i think came off a 2TG. Unsure of jettings. 18RG usually had 145 or 135 mains and 165 or 170 Air, easy to see as the sizes are stamped on the jets that screws down into the carbs under that solex cover.
2TG would I think have smaller jets 125 or less fuel and 135 air? maybe?
