I want to begin labeling, splicing and the general installation of my Dualsport (has it's own loom) I'm just wondering if when installing a standalone ecu I can completely unplug and remove the original ecu? I'm guessing no, as it appears to have a few things that my ems won't be taking control of.
Below is the pinout of the early 7mgt ecu and the pinout on the Dualsport, I've crossed out what i presume will become redundant on the standard computer when the new one is installed, and left things i presume will still require power when the new ecu is installed. Can anyone with experience confirm/deny if that looks correct.

IDL will not get used by the EMS
G2 will not get used by the EMS (well, one out of G1 and G2 will not be used)
Airtemp will not get used, as that is in the AFM, and that is being ditched.
You will need to install a different airtemp sensor.
7MGTE runs 3 lots of 2 injectors, 1 ignitor, and 3 coils (as I'm sure you are aware).
You will have to make sure the EMS can do the same, otherwise you will need to purchase ignitors.

cheers Cruz. I've got an EMS 3 coil ignitor, the loom it came with looks complete and has it's own air temp and water temp sensors. Can you see anything else could be cut and removed from the standard loom?
EMS shouldn't use the CSI or the CSI temp sensor either.
I'm unsure on the EMS's ability to control the factory ISCV either. But if it can it wont need the two +12v wires that Toyota uses. It will just use the four other ones
Aftermarket ecu's generally don't use IGT, but rely on IGF only (or is it the other way around?)
None of the dedicated AFM wires are needed either (I presume EMS has a dedicated MAP sensor?)

The EMS has a choke feature which should make the CSI useless and using one of the outputs i will be able to use the ISCV aswell which is nice. I'm unsure about the IGT/IGF stuff sorry

edit- I had a little read of this .pdf which I think explains how ignition works pretty well. If IGF is an error check return signal how could an aftermarket ecu use this without having sent an IGT first

Another question, Do injectors require the polarity a certain way, I ask because the injector plugs on the loom i got have the ground wire connected to the +ive and the red wire going to the switching ground off the ecu.
I don't beleive so no.

I unwrapped the standard loom today and did some labeling/wire tracing. It all looked pretty straight forward. Because i have another loom for the EMS that has everything that the EMS requires for the engine to run should i just disconnect/cut the things I've highlighted red from the standard ECU and just leave things like knock, temp and the o2 sensor connected while things like TPS and Cam Pos. can just be unplugged from the standard loom and then plugged into the new one?
Isn't the EMS a 100% standalone, and thus you remove the stock ecu completely?

yup, but i'd really like to keep the other functions the original unit had, like knock sensing, the speedo, A/C, etc.

A couple more Q's,
For an engine to start correctly is this how things should be switched via the ignition switch?
- On AM2 the fuel pump is connected to power, as are the coils, while the injectors are already connected to 12v, but will be switched on/off via ground by the EMS once the engine is actually rotating.
- On AM1 the starter motor and CSI kick the whole lot off,
- Once started the car stays on AM2 but now with the engine running.
Also would any of you have an idea as to what pin 27 (Pump relay control) of the EMS does? I first presumed it switched the fuel pump on, however there is no output from pin 27 when the EMS is on, Also there is no output from the relay that goes to a fuel pump
Is it likely it just goes in place of the standard ECUs FPR output that switches the fuel pump to the resisting circuit? (Is this used for a hard rev limit or something?)
Finally, will it be ok to do away with the EFI Main Relay and the Circuit Opening Relay?
I’ve been messing with some wiring diagrams in paint and *think* I’ve wired up everything correctly, but I’d appreciate it if someone could have a look over it all and see if you think she’ll work.
