Default Enigine conversion for my liteace??

Hi everyone. I just thought i'd see what your thoughts were on an engine conversion for my liteace.
I like driving it and it's sooo handy, but i wish it was more fun to drive.

It would also be nice if the engine conversion wasn't too involved.
It's a ym21, currently 'powered' by a 2y carby motor and has the g-series gearbox.

    So far i was thinking:

2/3/4y turbo/sc- I'd need to have a fresh motor built, custom manifolds and then aftermarket computer.
It'd bolt back in, but i'm worried it wouldn't improve it a great deal and isn't all that cost effective??

Rotary- Im a rotor head, so i cant' help it!
But it would bolt up to my gearbox, by using an adaptor plate, so that saves heaps of hassle. Engine mounts would be fairly straight foward and if i just went carby 13b i think it would probably be fairly easy, as far as coversions go...

1GGTTE- these motors are so cheap. would also bolt up to my gearbox. but im concerned about size/lack of space, engine mounting and also fitting the van with efi and wiring to suit.

Any other motors i should be considering?
I'm not in a hurry to do this, just weighing up my options.
I realize a 1j or 1uz would probably be an excellent choice, but i'm worried that conersion costs will blow out. I cant let that happen, because it's my daily driver and would need to be done ASAP.

    Thanks

conversions are usually never a quick process, unless your BIGWORM, then you can do em ina 8 days. (what a weapon)

i would like to see a 1uz under the hood. very nice and very good for work.

i dont think an atmo 13b would be good if you are internding to load the thing up to actually haul stuff around and the like. and not for towing.

there was a van on ebay not long ago with an rb20 in it, so you can fit a 6 cyl under there. a definete sleeper!

im not sure of where to go to fond out some more info on one of these conversions, there must have been someone else out there thats done something with one of these.

Trust me slide, i know about conversion costs and time frames blowing out....
My corolla project just keeeeps going on and on

I would also like to do it as cheap as possible. The 1uz would be nice, but the manual conversion flywheel wasnt that cheap, room for headers, etc. etc.

I did see that rb20 tarago, you couldnt see buger all of how the conversion was done by the photos.

It would be nice to have a chat with someone that had attacked a van and done a cool conversion on it, but they don't seem to be popular for conversions.
I know theres a few rotary powered ones interstate and heaps of NZ rotor powered ones.

    thanks man

I saw a 1JZ powered Hiace doing 13s at Willowbank a couple years ago. :hint: :hint:

I think it was built by a mob called Zoom motorsports based out of Wynnum or somewhere near that.
I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have a 1jz in the thing.
But the 1jz doesn't win anything if i can't afford to finish the conversion

do something nobody else has done, dare to be different.

Go the 1uzfe or a 2jzge. neither will cause ur ass to glow red hot due to no turbos under you. both will go hard and tow a mack truck

If it came to that and probably my preferred choice if i could afford it, the 1uz would be excellent.

1uz will cost you less and be easier than a turbo. No intercooler piping, no intercooler, no making room for dump pipes/ wastegates...a lot of hassles gone if u keep it non turbo

Your Engineer is the one to go off. I would be talking to him and telling him that when you had it over a public weight bridge it was over the Ticketed tar weight buy 20kg etc of the weight you need it to be.
Then ask if he is happy if you get it scaled at a place he wants it to be scaled. I would then put the origional motor in even if you have to tow it there and filling all the fluids to the top and adding the needed in with scrap steel inside the door trims etc if its under when you take it to for a pre-scale{some were diffrent from were he wants}.
Like racing, you have to look at all options.
If you heart is set on it, it might get you threw

WTF? what his car weighs in at will have nothing to do with the finished conversion legalities..

A: the weight : capacity rules are based on the heaviest version of that model/shape, so the weight of his car will have no bearing even if he fills the back with depleted uranium.

B: its a commercial vehicle, so the weight:capacity rule doesn't apply.

I think you would struggle to put either a 1J or a 2J in, (length and size) without a bit of modification, a 1G is a fair bit smaller, especially in height, might be a go-er.. or what about a 22R or later model hilux engine? the shape lux that came out with the 3y etc, came out in the us with the 22R, and the lux that had the 22R here had the 2.7 there, so you might be able to get a 2.7 to fit relatively easy if you can get the engine cheap.

if you aren't looking for a rocketship it might be a good option.

It took me ages to deside on the right engine then i saw a crunched carina for sale on the side of the road on the way back from a very disapointing trip to a breakers so a deal was struck and the rest is history.Nos

dunno how much the chasis differs between older and newer models but the new ones having 3rz's if they bolt in thats half the battle.... can slap a turbo one the side of that and push a reliable 200 - 250rwhp all day everyday.
Only the shittiest of wines come in 5 litres

boosted 3rz hilux *new project* mwahaha
