i put a bit of hose to my ear and moved it around, when it got to the wastegate it was very loud, so i'd say its exh wheel

we were under there for ages checking all hose clamps and vac hoses etc, none are leaking.

what do i need to change turbos, are the gaskets reusable, i know the turbo-dump ones will need changing, are the manifold-turbo ones metal {i.e. just spray with hylomar}.

do u need gaskets ro anything for the turbo drains/water feeds

coppermax for the high-temp faces (turbine inlet/dump)

wilbo has some neato stuff for other gaskets (is like super glue at it sets in absence of air - but is flexible and looks like silicon).

edit: PM me your new address, i'll be at Keema underwood on sunday morning (for the BSCC motorkhana) so i can come over and watch in the afternoon.

I had a whirling noise from my front ct12a when boosting. Turns out that the shaft was bent and the turbine just beginning to foul the housing.

Sounded kinda like " Whoarrr..." almost at a resonant frequency. Only got worse with time..

    Good luck

I would have offered, but I am heading away for the weekend.

I used coppermaxx on the main gaskets and things like oil and water I used loctite 515...

Good luck with it! With twin dumps it should be a bit easier to get apart!

    Cheers
    Wilbo

The dump pipe to turbo ones are metal and are reusable.

The water/oil line is one piece metal and is resuable, I sealed it with the smelly brown loctite, the stuff you brush on.

The manifold - turbo are also a thin metal gasket from memory, just use the sticky smelly brown loctite again

Come to think of it im not sure that sticky, smelly brown stuff is a loctite product. It comes in a white plastic cylindrical container with a red lid and blue writing and will have a large number 1, 2, 3 etc. for the corresponding sealant. From memory you need 2 or 3. Does anyone know the stuff im talking about?

Yeah permatex thats it, and you are right it always seems to fall over and put sticky brown goodness everywhere. The other trick is you always seem to drop your gasket after coating it too

Can't remember that the water gasket was perforated it was definitely metal though. As i said I just used permatex No.3, removed turbos for making dump pipes and changed turbos on 1J's a couple of times and never had any leaking issues with the permatex.
