the cold start injector is prob blocked or gummed up.
Does the coolant temp gauge read ok ??
Hey everyone,
Just having some trouble with a small port 100kw at the moment..
It has trouble starting in the morning..
Story behind the car: Its been sitting around for about 7 months in someones backyard, i bought it and fixed it up, it starts and runs perfect now apart from when its cold..
The only thing that hasn't been changed is dizzy cap, rotor button, and fuel cap (bit difficult to access)
Just wondering what could be the problem and possible ways to fix it?
Would the fuel filter play a big role if its clogged? If it was this or electrical u'd feel it driving the car anytime i'd guess!
Thanks
Adrian

Yeah coolant temp seems fine,
I checked the cold start injector seemed perfect.
Nothing on it or anything..

if it was the fuel filter it would be rough all the time not just when its cold.
how rough is it when its cold ???
is the base idle set up ok ?? (idle speed and timing set with the ecu plug grounded )this along with the wax pellet choke setup could be your cause.

The timing is on 10 degrees base timing..
its pretty rough to start when cold, u literally have to put ur foot down on throttle, it will stumble first start, then u have to try again. and once more 3rd time it will start and run
But when its running its smooth as
its revving at 2500 when u first get it to start
And idler screw on the throttle body is all the way to lower idle!

ok so the car idles at 2500 when cold and the idle screw is closed ??
Is the throttle flap totally closed with foot off acc.( you will need to check this by looking inside the throttle body. seeing if it hits its stop is not good enough ) Ie it doesnt have the acc cable holding the throttle open slighly?
it idles ok when hot i take it. what speed ?

I'll check tommorrow if it fully closes..
It idles at 900 normally.
Yeah i'm wondering what it could be. coz first its at 2500 then its at 900 at idle when its warmed up!

A fast idle when cold is normal -- dont know about 2500 rpm though![]()
The thing that gets my attention is that you idle screw is closed and the car still idles !

Change fuel filter, clean injectors, what do you mean by fuel cap?, fast idle should be around 2000rpm, hot idle speed should be about 800rpm so your not far off.
Sounds like most of your dillemma's are being cause'd by fuel problems?
My thoughts
Im just a little lostbut ill be fine!
Ahhh excellent. I thought I had this problem too but I idle at around 2000rpm in the morning, stays at around 1500rpm for about 5-10 minutes and then will drop to around 800ish. Although if I give it a bit it idles at around 1100 for a bit after.Originally Posted by beige_bandit

My stock 4AGE used to idle at 1800-2000 for about 3mins before dropping to 1200 and then down to 800

If the fuel cap is difficult to access, how are you getting fuel in?
7 month old fuel isn't a good thing.....
Thats basically exactly how it should go, 800rpm when your getting close to normal operating tempOriginally Posted by takai

Which part did i mention the fuel cap, i can't find it hahaha
Yeah what i am suprised is that the idle switch is completely in all the way and the car still seems to idle, which could mean that the throttle flap is still open slightly as mentioned, i will check that on Sunday. I'd say there would be a bad vacum leak enough to cause this.
