Default Identefying a G series Diff.

    Hi.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me how i can identify a G series from an RN25 hilux. I realise they are aprox 1375mm from drum face to face. Do they have finned drums for cooling?

I found one at the wreckers today for a 74 hilux. Id just like to confirm that it actually does belong to one. As they are just a huge pile of diffs on a rack, with some sketchy hand writing on them.

    Rep awarded.
    Thankyou!

measurement is your friend, these had both finned and non finned drums, and were often interchanged with hiaces as well, so drums will not give you an easy answer.

    Good luck.

look for a 6 stud if you want to be sure its hilux. (thats 4x4) however the 2wd lux's and hiaces had the identical 5stud diff. I have one of these if you need to see what it looks like.

    Thanks for replies.
Im pretty sure the RN25 where 2 wheel drive.
I think ill go for the non finned one. That had 74 hilux that was dodgily sketched into the housing.

Apparently really early hiluxs had some diferent diffs (bog warmers?) So be careful. Take a tape and measure the crownwheel.

Because 1370mm is the measurement for a RA23/28 standard rear axle.

i have and "unkown" 8.2" ring gear rear diff..ratio is 4.875.. those people who selling it saying it was from Hilux. i mate it with a Hiace housing and 5 studs axle shafts hiace shaft. how to identify the rear diff is from which model?
the diff is not look like open diff as normal as it have a enclosure that cover the spider gear..
