How small a space are we talking? I broke a bolt off on my engine and managed to get a drill into the area with a bit of patience and manouvering.
Yeah...It was something I immediately regretted. It's not big enough to get a drill in that space and I really don't want to pull the motor out again. Is three on one side/4 on the other going to suffice? Or do I bite the bullet now and the pull the motor back out again? I've been told there's a "bolt doctor" who apparently removes bolts as his trade. Anyone heard of this guy?(Or better yet have his no.)

I'll post a pic of the situation tonight, I was actually thinking a dremel type tool may be the go. I mean I may be able to get a drill in there on an angle, but def not sqaure...The other thought was to take out the other bolts in both sides of the mounts. Raise engine up a bit with crane (Without removing the stuff already bolted in) I may be able to do this without undoing the gbox xmember.

Is there any bolt left poking out the hole?
I'd be looking at slotting the end with a dremel then using a screwdriver to get it out.
It's broken almost flush with the block(I can't see how far it's in past the bracket) First thing I think I'll do is take the other 3 bolts from the bracket, then spin it around to gain a little more access. I do like the screwdriver/dremel idea though! Might give it a good go with some wd-40 first...

I have had good results from welding a nut on with a mig but could be difficult if its broken well into the hole or in a really tight spot
It is a little awkward. But I like that idea the best so far! It'd mean I'd need to get that bracket out of the way, but it may be doable. Thanks for the ideas guys. Will let you know how I go this w/end!![]()

Also if its a tight tread like when they break trying to undo a seized bolt or stud. The heat from the weld seems to help if free up a little. I have been told a good hit with a hammer can help to.
Soak it in WD40 with a few squirts over about an hour, weld the nut on and undo it as soon as the orange glow disappears from the weld. Its always worked for me so far.
don't bother swivelling the engine mount around.. if you remove the other engine bolts and the chassis bolts you should be able to remove the whole thing? (not that I've ever seen a ta22 engine mount). that will give you more access, and be one loess thing in the way.
what about a right angle drill chuck?
The 22 mount bolts to the block with four bolts, there's one large bolt fitted through the mount itself (on an angle), which in turn bolts to the cross-member. Because of this arrangement it makes it very hard to remove the mount itself without lifting the motor x amount upwards to clearance the single large mount bolt from it's position in the crosmember. I'll have a good go at the weekend and see what happens.Originally Posted by Draven

You can get either a drill that has a very short head because the chuck id 90 deg to the body or get an adaptor for a regular drill,

shelldrake, as per what clubagreenie shows in the pic. there is an attachment u can get for a drill which is basically a gearbox which converts it to a right angle drive. std 13mm chuck ect
you can lift/support the motor to do this.
basically, get a lump of 4x2 and roll a trolley jack under the car with this lump of wood on it - basically poke it up and under the lip of the sump. jack it up till you see the motor tilt a wee bit (not too much, we just wanna support the weight here) then undo the mount and do what you need to.
hope that helps. i did my mounts on my 2T this way. don't over tighten the bloody things either when putting em back in the block - they're only really small bolts considering what they do.
