    Default MS123 electrical auto problem

My MS123 will not change gear, It's always at first gear.
I can change gear manual when i disconnect the ECT.
Is this i common problem? What is the first thing to check? speedsensor?

    I presume this is a 5MGE MS123 and not a 5ME one?

Bridge ECT and E1 in the diagnostics box in the engine bay.
The O/D OFF light will flash some codes.

That will tell you what is wrong with the box.

    Yes, it's a 5M-GE.
I cant find any diagnostic box in this one, does it look different from other Toyotas?

Should be behind the engine fuse box.

Wait, I see you are in Sweden, its possible that you have a gen1 or gen 1.5 5mge (which may not have diagnostic boxes)

Do you have an A43DE, A43DL, or A43D transmission?

Hmm, you should have a diagnostics box somewhere in the engine bay.
My '86 is just behind the engine bay fusebox.

But with your location Toyota could have shipped anything there.

What you need to do is find the ECT pin on the ECT ECU, and ground it.
Then the O/D OFF light will flash a code.

You can see the wiring diagram here.
    http://www.conceptual.net.au/~peewee...agram%2005.jpg
The ECT wire is the "TO CHECK CONNECTOR (1-3)" White wire with a red trace.

First thing to check is what Cruzida suggested.
If you can't do the first thing, next best thing to check is speed sensor. Electronically controlled transmissions will not shift out of first gear if the ECT ECU has no speed signal. (An invalid speed signal, at the wrong rate, may cause it to shift at other speeds, eg 80km/h 1->2nd).

It seems like the speed sensor on the tranny is OK but there's no contact between sensor and ECT. What pin on the ECT is for SP2?

I found it! I was wrong, there is contact between sensor and ECT.
Maybe it was no contact and now it is? I got to plug in ECT and test.

Both can be tested with a multimeter.

Check for continuity between the sensor and the ecu first.

I've used this to check things before
    http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/d/D_09.gif

Its actually for a USDM 7MGE Supra, but while the colours were different to my 86 Cressida, the pin numbers were correct.

    Both speedsensors are OK.
I can't get any diagnostic codes (nothing is flashing). Why?
I don't get any further now.
Maybe it's the ECT itself that's the problem.
Does anyone have one for me? part # 89530-30150

    I'm back with this problem.
Is this a normal test sound of SP1 and SP2?
