there wasn't any movement in the turbine shaft whatsoever. i'll try the wastegate and also Toyman's idea and let you all know what happens, thanks for everyone's help

with the boost gauge connected to the plenum chamber, i only get about 2-3psi if that. does this just mean that its a boost leak? if it is just a boost leak is it still safe to drive?

now you have to put the boost gauge line as close to the turbo as you can and see if it has the same reading.

if its the same, then you have a big problem
if it goes upto the normal reading ie 12psi (or whatever the gate is set at) then you have a leak it the system

does it make any difference that the BOV dosn't work now either. what i mean is that it does work but dosn't make any noise or anything anymore, i'm assuming that no air is going to it, not sure though

    Hi again
I've looked at the actuator rod again and i was able to move it. its sits at about 6:00 if you know what i mean. Should it be sitting in that position? Apart from taking the dump pipe off is there any way that i can tell if the rear wheel is still ok, like what sounds to listen to?

Also the whizzing sound sounds like its coming from the rear end of the turbo, dump pipe side, does this mean anything?
    Thanks again for everyone's help

that depends.. a lot of turbos "whizz" when they spool.
I'm in the same boat as you.. my 2nd turbo isn't boosting. only way is to either remove your exhaust and get a scope up the dump pipe, or pull the whole lot and peek in the rear housing.

i would recommend taking off the dump and inspecting the wheel and wastegate. you will be able to see straight away if the wastegate is stuck open.

other than that, you need to do serious check of the entire system. if you cant find anything then you are going to have to take it to someone or a workshop to get it checked out

agreed - you ahve the advantage over me of not having twin dumps to deal with. just pull the exhaust off and have a look, check the play, etc

You won't get warranty on the turbo, any problem will undoubtably be due to the lose of oil. In which case your mechanic is liable, but good luck winning that fight.
