Basically they are trying to politely say F off if you are not a tech head. They forget that other people are not all 100% Toyota nuts and do have other interests, and also enjoy other parts of the forum besides the tech section. I also love my Supra but I am not about to spend countless hours in the tech area trying to get my hits. Most of the stuff is not even about Supra's anyway in there.

And hell why I am on my high horse....

It is quite clear to see that there is a huge seperation between the paying member, and the casual member.

Lets take the Members Ride section for example, what the hell is the point of having a Members Only rides section and a Non Members ride section

Way to make it a community site. Why don't you just say if you don't pay we don't want you?

How about you offer people something that live outside of NSW and we will join FFS.

Tell me the point of joining if I live outside of NSW?... there is no point...zero, zip, nada.

dude... Ed is a tech moderator. I don't think he really needs to suck up

On the old forum there were a number of people who signed up exclusively to use the classifieds, whether for personal or (quite often) semi-commercial purposes. Limiting the ability to post in classifieds not only weeds out the people of questionable integrity, but also goes a way toward ensuring the club sponsors are the only commercial entities operating in the classifieds section and re-inforcing toymods as a tech forum.

And re: their mates giving them reputation points for any post in tech... you can rest assured there are plenty of us here who will give negative rep for crappy posts in tech, and above and beyond that the admins have the right to revoke positive rep if they feel it isn't warranted (thus limiting the "mates" factor).

Again, if you did a search your question would be answered. the members ride section is a place where the members of toymods can feel more secure posting the intimite details of their cars. There has been more than one case on various forums where theives have almost certainly picked out a car based on posts on forums, and for this reason some people become quite careful about what info they post about their cars... the people who can read the members section have generally seen the cars in the flesh at various meets before, so there's nothing to hide.

And the members who want their cars available for viewing by everyone post them in both sections (as several people have)

Hey glad to see you take feedback well by taking off my one point of rep I had from another thread ... nice one .

You make a Feedback area yet can't handle the feedback when you get it.

Ahh yes I was waiting for the old looking after sponsors part, can't believe it took this long before someone mentioned the real reason.

Yeah im the same mate, i live in townsville, and i cant see the point in joining either cause its not like we can go for a cruise or basiclly do anything involved with toymods...
So if its costing the members so much money, why dont they just charge the guys getting something out of it like a dyno day, or a toymods cruise....wouldnt that make sense

It's never been a secret that commercial posts are not permitted unless you're a sponsor. That was always a rule on the old forums that was ignored and resulted in bannings. Now the rule is preventatively enforced. And as I said, I think that's just one of the things that was in favour of the new method.

edit: And I haven't given any feedback to anyone in this thread, so take another guess?
You've asked your question in feedback and you're getting the justification for why things are the way they are. Just because you don't like the answer, it doesn't mean we didn't answer the question

So where is my 1 rep point you took off?, or are you just proving my point that you honestly don't care about the general toymod users unless they are willing to pay.

And if they are outside NSW they are just paying to have a cool "Toymods Club Member" tag below their name.

I could think of a better place to put $50 + $40 annually at this point in time.....

If I have given you a negative rep (which I can't remember doing, but I remember very little) then it must have been for something else you posted that I thought was deserving.
Just as it's your right to give negative rep if you feel people post something in a section that doesn't belong, post whore, etc etc.

The toymods forums are free and a privledge for everyone, including financial members to use. If there was no financial members there would be no funding for the website, likewise without commercial sponsors like John from Importbitz, there would be a lack of funding to cover the costs of running the servers.

Now i'll offer you another viewpoint:

Outside of the forums is an actual car club, that has meetings, dyno days and the odd fun day out. But there are things such as public liability insurance that need to be taken care of, and in recent years this compulsory insurance cover for an incorporated club has skyrocketed. How does a non profit organisation raise funding? Through memberships and forum sponsors.

But you say that this is done to benefit the commercial forum sponsor? They PAY for the privledge to advertise their offerings on the forum and as mentioned above, you have the exact same option by taking up membership.

The problem has been commercial sellers jumping on and trying to make a quick buck by flogging their products without paying for the free advertising. So this new system eliminates that.

Yes i understand you are not a commerical seller, but as mentioned above and outlined in the FAQ, the reputation has been designed to create a community whereby others are trusted and no dodgy sellers come online and rip off unsuspecting users.

Once this site has been operational for a while, i would tend to think that someone with 2000 reputation points would be a trustworthy person to deal with.

Just to finish off, do you think that the tradingpost will let you advertise your parts for free?

So you think it is fair for me to pay the same price for membership as NSW members do?, yet outside of NSW you have no access to the toymods events that this membership is meant to give. So you expect me to help pay for NSW people to have their dyno days... hey what awesome value for money.

No one outside of NSW should have to pay $50 + $40 a year.

This whole rep this as dodgy as hell ... anyone that doesn't like your opinion even outside the tech forums can just take point off you... hey it already happen to me today because I didn't suck up and someone didn't like my feedback... in a feedback forum

I have read in other threads of people ripping rep of ppl because they gave bad info BY ACCIDENT , with all intentions of actually trying to help out. If this happen to me I will not be enthused to ever put info onto the tech site if anyone can come along and give bad feedback because they want to be c##ts.

A way to fix this is:

    A) Provide a decent membership price for people outside of NSW
    B) Relook at rep points and make it more regimented and fair.
    C) If it aint broke don't fix it, there was nothing wrong with the old toymods site, it was free and a great place to be part of. If I want to join a communist regime I will go live in North Korea.

Yeah, it is fair. Perfectly fair. Have a look in that side bar there mate, you arnt the only one in another state, and yet some of us pay for membership.
When you factor it all in, the $40pa it costs for membership is tiddlysquat compared to how useful the forums are. Hell i still pay $60pa to PIARC even though I havnt been to a PIARC meeting since Feb2004.
