wots this - a further move from celicas
Hi guys, I found a Tarago in the local wreckers. Boxed in, covered in other car bits, so unable to get to the Vin Plate.
What I can tell you is, it is a GLi, with 4Y engine. Oh, it is an Auto.
Is this a YR22?
thanks heaps, Chuck.

YR22 has a good upgrade diff for a TA
No Craig, just trying to find out if the Tarago has an "F" series diff. Tarago, are only 5mm wider than the MKII. The Corana's are getting hard to find. Do you still have that one at Appin?
Cheers Chuck.
you do know that there is chassis number stamped on cars? abit of junk moving is worth finding a good diff
i also once heard a rumour that the rare 4WD taragos had F series LSD which is good but probably 6 stud hubs which is bad
can anyone confirm??
- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
merc-blue, mate the thing is wedged between/under other vehicles, yeah otherwise I would have got the numbers.
cheers Chuck.
Just found some general info on the Tarago. Apparently the model designation changed to YR22, when they fitted the 4Y engine, 2.2 litre EFI. The bare bones lower spec RV, also had the 2.2 litre EFI engine, chassis designation was also YR22. I had a look at one of these ages ago, and they definately have the "F" series diff.
So thanks for all your input, off to the wreckers tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
cheers Chuck.

Not sure. Will ask number 2 son.

Charles
Have sent you an email.
Craig
i pulled a plate off for reference
MODEL YR22RG-PQEQ
ENGINE 4Y-EC 2237 CC
FRAME NO YR22-0004103
COLOR 8D7
TRIM GT81
TRANS./AXLE A45DL F282 note:live axle
PLANT/BUILT K11 OCT 87
seems they beefed the rear axle up to handle the mighty torque from the 4Y

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
Hi Dan, cool thanks for pulling the plate. Now could you tell me, what was the general badging on the van. ie. RV, GLi or GLX. Reason I ask, is that the rear door is the only visible part of the van.
cheers Chuck.
I pulled it ages ago, the only thing i remember is that it had velour trim.
But i'm pretty certain all yr22 have a f series diff.
the super bare bones tarago is actually a DX, but they continued with the 3y in a carbed form
the xtratrak 4x4 tarago is a yr31, rumored to have a f series lsd, and in stud, but until i see a chassis plate, it'll remain a rumor
i know far too much about taragos, it's embaressing

Just for people's info, early Tarago's (forward control) had 4 stud pattern shared with RA60 Celicas.
Later, models have 5 stud same as Cressida.
Not sure about the current FWD crop though (but who cares)
oops meant RA60 Celica, not RA40.![]()
