I went to put fuel in my TA22 today but found the lock on fuel cap won't rotate to unlock original cap, tried squirting WD40 in but hasn't made any difference. Car hasn't been used for approx four years.
How can I remove it, without smashing with a hammer![]()
Not that I've had experience with the problem - if the fully key turns in the lock I would keep on working away at it.
If the key doesn't fully turn then the locking tabs that are part of the barrel may have seized over the years of non-use.
If the key isn't turning at all I'd talk to a locksmith for any suggestions - other than them coming out to solve the problem.
If you have the original arrow type cap I have noticed that if it isn't inserted the correct way it is a struggle to release it.
All the best with it.

Drill the lock out mate. Start small (6mm) then work up. Obviously this fucks your cap but at least u can put fuel in it
EDIT: Ebay fuel caps are worth less than a call out fee for most locksmiths

If the car is driveable, take it to a locksmith. They're surprisingly cheap, if you don't have to have them come to you. If not, you can get one out to you, but you'll pay for it, or warm up the drill.
