    Default TranAxle for 1UZ?

I was wondering if anyone knows a transaxle that will mate up to a 1UZ? I had a bit of a look but couldn't find anything. I suspect that maybe somewhere some kit cars might have been done??

I suspect that there is no bolt up options but knowing what has been used in the past would be a good start.

Any info\websites would be much appreciated.

    E-W or N-S?
Have seen 1UZ pics in E-W setup in MR2, bellhousing setup was custom. Not seen a N-S setup but would expect custom is your only option.

N-S for the applications I was thinking of.

Bugger. I mean I know it's not going to be cheap regardless, but didn't want to spend 10's of thousands.

I don't know of a direct bolt on but a few have been done with adaptors, mostly home done. Mainly in buggies.

Porsche 928 is a possibility, I think I've seen a Hewland as well but that would sit you on your ass for cost.

BTW, a 928 rear end goes for around 10k for a rebuilder.

Not many "cheap" options for N-S transaxles, bellhousing or adaptor will be the easy part. Considered a Subaru setup with rear drive setup disabled?

FWD Subaru at a pinch, probably going to go bang though.

i've seen a 1UZ attached to a Renault transaxle in a hillclimb special ... otherwise a porsche/audi gearbox (as used in GT40 replicas) is the way to go N/S mid-engined.

I have a link to audi gearbox identification somewhere ... only useful renault gearbox would be from a turbo motor and you'd still be breaking it regularly

my renault stuff appears to be borked - but the gearbox of choice was a UN1

Browse Lextreme, a few people there have used different transaxles (renault G50 rings a bell?)

Inverted Kombi box? they can hable a couple of hundred hp and gearsets are available. an adapter wouldn't be too hard to make either.

    other than that
    Renault UN1
    porsche g50
    Vw passat
audi Fwd boxes, (the 4wd bowes can't be converted as it makes them too week)

there are probly a few more but they start going overboard on price

    cheers

There are "Lamborghini" kit cars around with mid-mounted N-S 1UZs

    Google should reveal something

If you decide to give the Subaru FWD box a try, let me know I've got one that may become a spare eventually. With these setups you'd be wanting to check whether the extra length of the box matters. If the tail of your car is short it quite possibly won't fit.

This is kinda what you'd be looking at:

Lots of good information here. Thanks guys.

My initial wild idea was a mid mount RA28. I thought peering through the rear hatch and seeing a 1UZ with ITB's would be amazing. However I don't think there is a way to get it to fit.
    Here is my dodgy measuring:

Or if I go for a Rear mount, it looks like it might fit slightly better but wouldn't look as good and I think would be a little tail heavy

I'll keep looking at it. The shell and 1UZ are spares so was looking to do something with them after I use them to mock up the Crossmember and such.

I didn't really want to do the cut and shut method either.

The other idea as was mentioned here was to put on in a buggy.

MA61/RA65 etc. might have more room between B-pillar and centre-line of rear axle?
