    Default 4A-GE head on 1uz

Alright, I'm going to try to not become a laughing stalk here... I have actually never even touched a toyota engine before (aside from minor shop work) I'm looking to buy an RA65 Celica, but coming from a k20 powered Honda and currently driving a Ford sohc 4.6, a little 4A-GE won't really do it for me, I gave a 3S-GE BEAMS some consideration, but I think a 20v would be cooler... It's still not going to be powerful enough, so I thought 1UZ-FE, well It's actually more powerful than my 4.6, but I don't like the heads (and I obviously want to do something cool lol), I got to searching on the Internet, found a forum post: http://www.lextreme.com/forums/archi...p/t-10764.html which mentions Jun put 4A-GE heads on a 1UZ... Low and behold, I can't find that build and I know the 1UZ bore spacing is 105.5mm and a 4A-GE is 89mm. That's a 16.5mm difference... Cut it 3 times to space it out between the bores... That's only 5.5mm! That's actually quite a bit, but it might be about right if you get the crazy idea to cut a head. It's not the Grand Canyon, but it's large enough I could probably make sleeves for the head studs to go through and that might lessen the chance of a head gasket failure, deck the head and we might be golden... Maybe. Cams and fluid ports are the easy part here... I'm looking for input because I am the Toyota noob.

I will actually try and answer this seriously.

    Problems:
    - Bore spacing is per cylinder. So 16.5mm gap between each chamber.
    - Bore 81mm on 4A, 86 on 1UZ. Not optimal.
    - One head will need to be reversed or you'll get exhaust ports in the middle of the V. Then think about cam drive.
    - Huge amount of cutting, welding, machining and craftiness required.
    - Insanely expensive
    - Likely not to work well on first attempt

And why do this? Start with a 1UZ head and throw everything at it. It will be cheaper, better and more reliable.

As an aside, I've seen photos of someone who did something vaguely similar by joining two 1JZs to make 1 block with a common crank. Looked awesome, and beyond the capabilities of 99.99% of car enthusiasts.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

Oh crap you're right. Well that throws a wrench in my plan... I feel like I'm compromising with a vvti head, maybe it's because I'm unfamiliar with toyota... If only I could here the sound of a homemade 40v v8 lol, Ferrari doesn't cut it. Thanks for actually answering me seriously though, I do appreciate it. I think I will buy a RA65, but I'm still stuck on engines, leaning towards 1UZ just because of sheer power. I don't have a problem with doing a quick swap and having a car I can drive either.

The 1uz heads aren't particularly bad as far as I am aware? Especially the vvti ones

Being in the states though surely an LS motor would give you the best bang for buck? All depends on what your ultimate goals are I guess

Vvti heads are very good...non vvti not so much. If you don't like/want vvti just delete using 2uz cams and reground them to suit.

What power level are we talking here and dies it have to be N/a?

    Consider a 2GR-FE (3.5L V6).
