From memory you need to pull the top control panel and the vents out, bottom bit infront of the shifter as there are screws down the bottom and there might be a screw behind the ashtray.
Hi all, new to the Forums and New to modifying/replacing anything interior, I've had this MX83 for a while and the Radio is knackered and all the front speakers are totally blown, with the rear ones not far behind (but they seem do-able at home so long as I match up dimensions). I've tried to do some reading on removal of the stock unit but I haven't found many helpful results other than I have to start removing trim from around the steering column, as everything else seems to be from sites which have since shut down.
So does anyone have any protips/guides for me before I start breaking things? I've tried to remove it top down before from those top-most radio controls but it all ended up getting snagged on something and I just put it back together for another day.
Here's the stock unit now, pretty dodgy.
I was also hoping to install some cup-holders if I could later on down the track too, but I'm not sure where I'd actually put them, unless it's possible to switch to a 1-din head unit without much fuss?
Sorry for the terrible post structure, Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

Take out top radio control/hazard panel - it has two screws underneath and then gently pull and unplug the wiring
Remove the small trim above the steering column (where the key goes) - pull evenly from both sides (just clipped in)
Remove the shifter surround trim - lever it up from the back (just clipped in but the front near the stereo goes underneath so rotating from the back of the shifter gets it out without breaking things)
This should then expose the 4 bolts that hold the entire head unit/AC control thing - I think they are 8mm bolts and once they are out, then you pull the whole thing out, unplug the wires along the way
From memory, there is also a screw hidden away up inside one of the vents or just above the vent. Look with a torch.
Also, as I remember, to change the rear speakers, the upholstered cover of the rear shelf has to be lifted up. I think you might have to pull or unbolt the rear seat top half to get the cover off.
