I have a mate that works for Burke Air which do hosuehold aircons and he regassed my old car for nix but i dont see him doing that favour to everyone.

If you want the cheapest price ring a few places and play them off against each other NATRAD is one, just look them up and do some shopping dude.

Regas's are around the $130 mark, bit more if it needs converting from R12 to R134A.
A new dryer is about $60 (incl installation).

Not sure what you mean by filter (I presume you mean dryer).

Places generally won't vary by more than $10 or $20

Where they can vary though, is if the system leaks within a week or so.
Some places will charge you the full regas price, others only half price.

what is it with people wanting cheap this and cheap that?
buy a canary bird and and can sing "cheep cheep" all day long

but as above regas vary from $100 to $130.

you may find it for cheaper but i bet they wont have their aircon lisence

reciever drier usually around the $50 then add labour on top to change it.

being that you have a 2nd hand system make sure they put a leak dye in it otherwise when or if it has a leak it will be harder to find.

The R12-R134A mod is just replacing the gassing connections on the pipes with different fittings, preventing R12 from being regassed.

There are places around that run HC12 (HiChill or similar) which doesn't need the conversion, but the parts are like $30.

New dryers are available from Repco I believe.

You also normally run a charge of r134a through the system wen doing a retrofit to remove the remaining r12 then dump that and change drier and charge properly

Retro fit fittings are added so different gas arent put in. R12, r134a, fr12 etc all have different fitting profiles.

134a has very stringent conditions for use, no top ups aloud or "it just needs gas" crap. Hydrocarbon gases hychill etc dont so expect someone that uses 134a to charge as more cost are invovled in licencing and so on.

Isnt Hychill the one that was causing explosions?

Also they are not supposed to use leak dye until all other methods of finding a leak have been used, and they are not supposed to gas a system if there is a possibility of a leak.
