Re: Koni Yellow coil-over conversion for AE92 + Swift Springs
Back again. . . .
I have spent many hours evaluating alternative OEM replacement spring & Turn-Key Coil-over options but. . . my last posted comments aside - keep coming back to the Koni+Ground Control < or Koni Sleeve +Swift spring > coil-over conversion.
Pros / Cons of both;
Ground Control
Pros:
1. The kit is well proven & ready to go
2. The guys at GC are familiar with AE92 chassis & can recommend / specify spring specs for desired usage + drop.
Cons:
1. Funky Colours make it obvious its an aftermarket kit (I'd like a solution that looks OEM-ish to the casual observer).
2. I have to use Eibach springs*
*(AFAIK they're coil-over springs may be perfectly fine but comparing apples with oranges quite a few guys in the States don't think that much of their OEM-strut/spring replacement "Pro-Kit" or for that matter Eibach's OEM replacement springs. . . . ???
Koni Sleeve Kit
Pros:
1. Made by Koni for (AFAIK) my strut & all parts are finished in OEM-ish satin black so it IMO - runs less risk of incurring official wrath.
2. I can specify whatever springs I want (i.e. Swift)
Cons:
1. Lack of definitive information on the product - I still haven't 100% confirmed that these will fit my Struts. Koni Australia can't help + only website (see below) I've found that sells them doesn't (AFAIK) list my shock as compatible with 2 available Sleeve kits.
2. I have no idea of the spring specs & neither it seems do Swift's dealers in the USA. Called one dealer recommended by Swift (Evasive Motorsports) and the guy said they weren't really familiar with AE92's & said he couldn't help me unless I had the following information;
Spring Free Length - F & R
Inner Diameter - F & R
Rates - F & R
I'm running Whiteline springs that (AFAIK) are ~ 6-6.5kg/mm (F) and ~ 5.0kg/mm (R). As stated previously this setting is great for track use but IMO too harsh for street use.
Drop is ~ 30mm (F) and 25mm (R). I don't want any more drop on the street as I'm running UR chassis braces and already at minimum 100 mm ground clearance.
AFAIK you can't reference Coil-over (linear) spring rates to OEM replacement (progressive) spring rates. . . BUT contradicting what I've just said - 6kg/mm (F) and 4-4.5kg/mm (R) seems to be a popular spec for street use.
Can anyone help out w.r.t. what spring specs I would need for above set-up?

Thanks Classique71
I'm well aware of Barry's offerings - lots & lots of great stuff on MRP's site. I could absolutely obliterate my bank balance - but quite like having my wife around. . .
Having said that; some occasional discretionary spending can always be slid under the radar. . . < just pulled the trigger on a set of FA 500's >
Not that your post had anything to do with my decision. . .
