I heard the MX62 powersteering box fitted the RA40. The RA2x & TA22 have different hole spacing.. But maybe if its close some kind of adaption plate could be made up.
Hi guys, need some info, on which Toyota power steering box is going to be a close fit for a TA22.
Rack and pinion is not an option.
I am thinking a box off an early Crown/Cressida/MKII, or Corona, might do the trick.
Does anyone have experience/ideas with this.
Usefull bits for Toyota's are not thick on the ground at the local wreckers here in Canberra.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers Chuck.

Hiya Joel, yeah just finished reading the thread on the RA40 setup. As you say, an adapter plate may be the way to go.
From memory the 22 and 23/28 boxes are the same, cant see why Toyota would have changed em much for the RA40.
cheers Chuck.
Mate from my experience the TA22 & RA28 boxes are different also..
Before my R&P change I went to great lengths to try and find a good condition steering box. Rod Try had a few TA22 boxes that I took off his hands but they didn't bolt upeven the gearing inside them was smaller than the RA28 box.
I then got my hands on an RA40 box which again didn't bolt up.. But..... Don't quote me on this but I think the internal gearing was the same. Just the housing was different.
Cheers
Joel
I'm thinking for the adaption plate, hopefully 1 or 2 holes would line up. The plate would have some countersunk bolts so one bolts through the chassie and the other through the box. Being countersunk it shouldnt interfer with the box.
Only problem then is you are pushing the box out a good 10mm + from the chassie. Im trying to imagine what this would do to steering arms, drag link etc.. Hmm probably nothing? Just means the pitman arm would be on a different angle..
KE55 are the same as TA22 we confirmed the other day. so maybe someone has found a PS upgrade for the KE55.?
ive proven that a MX62 PS box will work in a RA40, but as pointed out by turbora28, they have a different bolt pattern on the box.
let us know if you need any MX62 box measurements as i have one laying around
good luck

hello
Why's this? It might end up being a better choice...Originally Posted by ChuckLandwehr
Two of the three bolt holes on a RA23 box (the top two) match a MX62, the third one (at the bottom) is about a holes' width away. I don't think it would be a problem for a good machinist to drill (curved surface) a new hole in a MX62 box to match the 23/28 set-up.
