2TG Rocker Cover Guide - With Pics

Just seeking some info regarding:
"The 11111-88222 Rocker cover did not have "1600" on it. It had its EGR valve mounted there so only had "Toyota" on the left Hand Side"

I am not up with the technical aspects of engines and wanting to know if it should be fitted. I have briefly read up on the purpose of the valve so no need to go there.
My restore has some way to go yet but whatever I can accomplish along the way I am doing, hence seeking some information.
I found the following from a forum thread of 2007, so perhaps the valve has simply been removed:

"dont worry about the egr alot of people block them off anyway all they do is use exhaust gases to heatup the motor and most carbon up and dont work anyway
i myself would block it off and make it look like it works

My cover had a filter connected to its vent pipe and having sought out what this filter was there for, I noticed that another option is to use a hose from the vent to the carb's? The benefit in this option being that not having to periodically clean/replace the filter.

Is there any general consensus if it is better for the EGR valve to be fitted, and the use of filter vs hose for the oil gases?

That is odd since I am looking at a page from October 1970 that shows a picture of the 2TG valve cover without the valve or mounts with "Toyota" on the left side (Exhaust side) next to the Oil fill cap and 1600 on the Carburetor side of the engine. There are no mounting places for that valve; also listed under the TA20 Chassis.

I'm not sure if there were early 11111-88222 2T-G heads with no EGR

The change was likely around 1973-4?

In all honesty too - it should not be called an EGR valve - no exhaust gas passes through it - it opens to dump fresh air into the inlet manifold on switching the motor off to lean out/purge fuel and stop run-on.
My TA27 one is possibly one of the few remaining working ones on an engine outside of Japan

Well by working valve, installed in use on your car as of now. Also remember that the Oil vapors from the engine where also injested thru the carbs to burn off those in hopes of reducing emissions. The fact that yours is still working, man that is cool. And you are correct about the date. I'm still sifting thru my old parts from that era. That TA27 is a rare car indeed. Thanks.

I had a look at the Master Parts catalogue I have and have found the two different ventilation solutions for the early 2T-G.
The ''EGR'' you have came about from April 73.
Prior to that it seems that there was a less elaborate setup.
I have attached the page that shows both solutions.
I have attached it in Word 2010 but if it doesn't work I will delete it later and scan.

Yes, I own both of those systems, I was around when these were still running around when these engine were less than ten years old. I had shipped a lot of parts back from that era, so as you can see from your first picture, these did recycle the Oil vapors from the crankcase. I'm the librarian, so I have all of this in print from all of those old books. I have a bunch of Modification info from those old Japanese car magazines and Toyota publications. Sad that those parts are still not available, because those old parts manual did come in handy.
