Default 21RC head on 22RE bottom end??

Okay so I have a 22RE with a blown headgasket and a 21RC with a conrod sticking out the block My mate has a 21RC with fucked rings in his RA40 and I'm wondering if I can put the 21RC head on the 22RE bottom end as a replacement for his 40? I know I could convert the RA40 to EFI, I have all the parts to do it but looking for the easier alternative. I also know there was carby 22R's but I don't wanna go hunting for the manifold and a carby, I just wanna use what I have in my yard.

should bolt up, but might be a idea to CC each combustion chamber and chedk the deck height and piston shapes to see if you will end up wiht stupid high or stupid low compression. If you have both engines why not give it a shot?

Yeah I thought the only issue I may encounter would be the pistons. Maybe I should just slap it together and if it blows up then oh well, Haha.

yeah do that, turn it over by hand a few times then do a compression test, if the numbers aren't crazy high then go for it

Pistons are flat tops for both so they won't be an issue. Chamber volume in the head could be, but pull them both off and have a look. Considering you're carrying the old head over to the 22r bottom end you shouldn't have a problem. IIRC timing setup varies slightly between 21 and late 22r, but again if you swap it all over I don't think you're going to have a problem. Dive in and let us know how it goes!

Yeah I have two complete engines. I'm sure I can get a set up working, was more worried about the pistons hitting the head or smashing valves.
I know one of them has double row timing chain and the other is single, Can't remember which is which but I'd swap over to the double either way.

    Thanks guys.

The americans used to mix 20r with 22r engines the same way people stick 2tg heads on 3t bottom ends but I don't think they got the 21r. There used to be a forum classic-celica.com that had posts about such things. There is another forum 1st gen celica.com that may have some info that might help.

Yeah I was on Classis-Celica.com and would have posted there but the site went down permanently a few weeks back... Hence I thought I'd try my luck here. Also, 1st gen Celica.com requires an account and I can't be bother making on just to ask one question :/ I've done it so many times on other forums.
I'll give it a go and try the head on the bottom end and compression test it.
