73 celica LT No Air conditioning

hello everyone,

I ran into a problem and this is the only place i can turn to for help. Im in the process of getting a 73 celica LT in shape and just found out the car probably didnt come with air conditioning for whatever reason. There is a blower but only the heating would work there. Now there is an option to get an after market AC unit but my tech guy is saying the built in vents wont work and this AC will be fitted under the glove compartment. I really want the car's interior to work the way it originally did. Any suggestions would be welcome. Please help

Best bet would be to find an original unit and install that. Anything aftermarket just doesnt look right...the wiring is in the stock loom if you can find a unit.

The original set up has the evaporator under the glove box in place of the tray and then a basic co troller that sits above the centre console. There are other options for the compressor and condensor, main thing is finding an evaporator and console control section....

One of these. It marries up with the stock fan/heater unit (with some minor mods). Afraid they are fairly rare (just sold the one in the photo - sorry!).
