You are missing the part where there is no controlled deceleration during the point where your body is moving forward with the seatbelt. Once the seatbelt tightens and stops your body your head is still going to keep travelling forwards till it reaches the limit of movement, and then start to decelerate. The difference in energy imparted through your neck is going to be negligible (IMO)


Yeah I think you're right. I didn't realise harnesses flexed. Sounds like I will be able to justify not wearing the hans device on the road
