When I swapped a 2JZ into my Cressida I fitted the MX83 abs speed sensor ring and sensor and it worked
Hi All,
New here. Have searched for an answer and am only finding bits and bobs with nothing definite. Have bought a Dec 90 Mx83 grande with a 1jz conversion that needed finishing off. Abs light on. Jzz30 motor and box used. Am I correct in assuming that the abs speed sensor ring on the output shaft is different from the original 7m box and this is why abs is faulting. I don't have any idea how to even read fault codes on these vehicles if at all possible to read abs codes. Abs light illuminates only after moving the vehicle, so it goes through its startup self test fine. Only until I'm guessing it starts seeing an incorrect pulse from the rear wheel sensor. Any and all advice appreciated. Cheers.

Jealousy is a curse
u need a 32 pulse ring on the tailshaft
there is one type of 1jh which has a slip yoke and a 32 pulse ring but these are very rare
this wil make your abs work like perfect when wired right
but most 1js are 4 pulse ring so u need to find a signal multiplier to multiply that by 8
but then u run into the problem when u r going slow the one pulse gets multiplied to 8 quickly
and then u get slow pulses on front wheels and quick pulses on rear wheels and then abs apllies pressure to rear
ive tried this and it sort of works above 60 kph
but when yr doing 25 kph or so and u brake it may lock up the rear a tiny bit
so in the end like madmount said fit the mx73 rear sensor
Ive got another brand of speedo sensors but havnt tried to fix a 1j mx83 abs problem for 6 years now
as no one cares about 1js into cressedas much these days
So in theory if i fit the original mx83/7m output shaft/sensor ring, abs will work? Pitty the original box and motor are long gone. Was it only the grande's that were fitted with abs? Thank you for the replies.
Some people attach the sensor ring and sensor to the diff input flange

A nice solution, but seeing my box already has the 2nd sensor and abs ring(having come from a jzz30). Would it not just be easier to swap to the 7m/grande abs ring/shaft/flange? Are the rings available separately say from toyota or will I be looking for a 2nd hand grande box? Cheers.
so after finding some photos I'm assuming that the abs ring is machined as part of the output shaft and therefor the box has to come apart and shafts change to reinstall an mx83 item?
You do not need to change the shaft.
Here is a picture of the modified MX83 abs ring I used
And the modified MX83 housing I used
