if it were mine, I'd turn the engine over by hand, if that went ok, drop a bit of oil down the bores (through the plugs) probably do that before you turn it over.. .. then wind it on the starter til oil pressure comes up.. by light or guage... then add fuel and spark .. and since it hasn't been started prior.. don't forget to run the cam in.

Anyone know where I can get one of those manuals in Aus. The closest I came was some scanned copies with text converted to english but it is not complete.

I wouldnt bother with the original 3TGTE manual, they are all japanese. Your better off finding a 2TG manual as it has the same torque settings and as much info as you need to sort out the 3TG.

Yes, you are wrong, If you need wiring info to improve your current setup, that can't be found in the 2TG manual. I was looking at a post a while back on the internet on how the ECU was wired and the guy did pretty good, guessing, but the correct connection points, (Which had been posted for years) were wrong. The sensors for your vehicle and the operating ranges are all in English, as well as 90% of your specifications. But he is correct about the engine specifications, and torques are easier to read in the 2TG manual. The 3TG timing spec's and distributor wiring can be found in the 3TG manual. My opinion, (Not worth much)

The reason I suggest the 2TG manaul is because based on the earlier pics its clear this 3TGTE has an aftermarket ECU, no distributor etc. without the electrics then the 2TG manaul is all you need....

Cheers guys. Yes, it has an aftermarket ECU. Adaptronic at the moment but will be switching to MoTec. Another quick question. I'm want to upgrade the diff. Based on my research I'm under the impression from some threads on toymods that this will fit my f series IRS- TRD 41301-RA010 ALTEZZA SXE10 98.10- 3S-GE,1G-FE.

    Is this correct?

I will give that one! However, the reason I suggested these manuals specifically was for the chassis and body info, for replacement parts available in the parts manuals and wiring of the vehicle from the Body info for the TA63.

There is always something more than just an engine! (Which I can't believe I'm saying this, Since I'm always preaching engine info) I however stand corrected about the ECU!!

Wow, its been over a year since this post. I managed to get the engine started. I ditched in the Adaptronic in favour of MoTec. Its making 166 rwkw at 10psi. I'm a bit disappointed with this tbh. Here's the dyno sheet:

I now have an issue with it randomly deciding to cut out. I can't seem to get to the bottom of this. It seems to run fine for a little while but then cut out. This happens on idle and when accelerating.

Sounds like something wrong in the ECU, could be a number of things. I'm just about to get my 3TGTE started using a Haltech. In my case the Haltech has full diagnostics to help find issues, does the Motec have the same.
Might be an earth fault, check you have a good earth...

IF so, just hook up your laptop to see whats happening. 166RWKW at 10psi sounds amazing, I would be more than happy with that? What were you expecting?

What injectors, turbo and other mods to you make to achieve that?

    It makes 166rwkw on 10psi and that's a problem?
That's pretty solid, wouldnt be unhappy with that at all.

Seems to nose over pretty early though, needs more turbo by the looks of things.

The MoTec does but it's not picking anything up when MPC had it for the tune. I'm no expert when it comes to tuning. They think it has something to do with the turbo timer that was wired in to it. It's at the auto electrician now having a few things done. Hoping they can sort it out.

I'm not not happy just not over the moon if that makes sense. I was hoping for a little more and boosting coming on earlier than it is. I'm not sure how much more power I can realistically achieve when winding the boost up though I'm hoping to make 200 rwkw.

    Eagle rods
    Coil packs
    534cc Sard purple tops
    Custom intake manifold
    Custom exhaust manifold
    GT2860RS turbo
    2.5in exhaust
    FMIC
    MoTec M84

The dyno plot suggests its running around 200kPa manifold pressure, so 100kPa boost.
160rwkw out of a 3TGTE on 14psi sounds about what I would expect.

What power could I realistically expect? Is 200+ rwkw manageable with my current set up? This was my goal along with it being quite responsive. I'm starting to doubt that now.

hmmmmm... power comes on somewhere around 3000-3300, and it tops out at about 5800....

maybe a bit more cam.... and a bit smaller impeller......

Your disco potato should get you to 200kw without any dramas. Your injectors are big enough, you have a decent ECU, ask the tuner to turn up the boost! 166kw on 1 bar sounds about right for a 1.8 on petrol without any major mods. Are you still running stock cams diz44zy? It does seem to nose over early but then again I have nfi where a stock head 3TGTE normally peaks, they are a 2V motor so with stock cams etc they probably aren't geared to make peak power all that high in the rev range.

Either way, my vote is turn it up to 18psi and see what it does
