    Default RWD auto

    A friend has just asked me how to auto trans a 4age RWD, and what can the bits be obtained from????? Especially as in the UK retro jap parts are pretty scarce.

    He will need to find the automatic transmission offered in the AE7x or AE86 with the 4AC engine, as the bolt patterns and flexplate locations should be the same. I don't know if these were available in the Uk, I do know they are scarce... but around in the USA (and Canada?) He will also need to source a flexplate from an MR2 because the MR2 used the 4AGE, and so the flexplate has 8 holes drilled


    As to the power... your friend will want to boost the engines compression about 1/2 to one full point, this will help increase the low end response. I would not swap in a performance cam..... too much lost low end

    Just beware it's not a 4AGZE flexplate out of the MR2; it has a slightly bigger bolt spacing diameter to the torque converter compared to 4AGE's. I have both 4AGE and 4AGZE transmissions (including torque converter) and was able to verify this. Unfortunately I don't have a 4AGE flex plate.

    AE92's and AE101's had auto 4AGE versions as well, the flex plate should be the same.
