Bringing up an old thread, but thought this probably belongs in here...

I'm chasing some shocks for the rear of my RA23... With standard shocks, my king lows become uncaptive at full droop.. not by much, but say around 10mm.

I've seen some shocks mentioned on here (torana) of which there are two types..

One model is the same length as an RA40 shock (Koni 80-2134 : 465mm), the other is the same as stock RA23 (Koni 80-2299 : 575mm)...

The 80-2134 is just too short it seems, with the car sitting on the ground, the shocks have probably an extra 5-10mm of droop before they are fully extended... can't imagine this is good. Wouldn't the shock be constantly reaching full extension under normal driving?

I can get a Koni which is 495mm long, this gives me about 4cm of droop before they are fully extended... Now this will definately keep my springs captive, but is this still enough travel? There is plenty of travel for the shock when its compressed, its just the fact that it will be limiting the amount of droop on my rear suspension... The rear axle could drop another 3-4cm before the spring becomes loose...

Ideally I want something only 20mm shorter than standard, so 550mm long... where the ones that have been provided are around 500mm...

Rav4 shocks have been mentioned but all the ones I have found are longer than RA23 standard.

To bring up an old thread, did you find a suitable shock?

    For info:

Koni Yellow Shocks for KE70/AE71/AE86 Rear. (P/N 80-2437 Sport)

The AE86 shocks are shorter than RA23/28 rear shocks, and seem to be a good choice for lowered RA23/28.

    Specs: 550mm extended, 340mm compressed. (Koni RA23/28 is 575mm extended, 340mm compressed.)

I ended up with a Koni Red - 80-2157sp1, 57mm shorter than standard originally from the back of some old Monaros/Holdens!

Seems to match my 86-1991 Yellows nicely, 1000x better than the stock stuff that was in there beforehand!
