Sounds like what you've already mentioned.. RCA interference from power cables or a bad earth.. Usually does exactly what you're describing.
Hi guys,
Just curious - What are the main reasons you hear a whine through the speakers when car is on?
This whine matches RPM. When foot is down, whine is higher.
In a Soarer, what is likely to have 'happened' ?
Alternator and battery is charging at 100%, tested with multitool.
Could this whine ONLY be caused by the alternator diode, or can it be something else also?
I've heard alternator whine before on other cars, never heard RCA speaker cable/power cable whine or interference from a 'bad earth' - so I have no idea what it sounds like.
(I have white crap on my positive battery terminal also...)
I assume what I am hearing is alternator whine.
Would the car charge at 100% if the alternator has a stuffed diode or similar?
Also,
When i bought car, the air con light was flashing on the dash.
Weeks later, it stopped flashing.
Weeks later my air con screen went blank.
Air con/heater has always worked via the knob (but needs a regas I think).
Could the whine be the A/C ? (if so, what do I check?).
Nobody around my area knows wtf they are doing on this Soarer, so I'd rather some advice and see if I can check things myself.
Where do I go from here?
What is the most likely culprit right now - from experience?
Pics of earth points or a link would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
P.S. I have no idea how speaker whine works - so treat me like a noob!
Also, can I test the diode in the alternator (or whatever else) at home, or do I need to take it to a shop with specialist tools etc.?

check your ariel base plate you could be getting interference from that, i had a bf falcon come in with the exact problem you have, replaced the base plate and it was fine.
