Default Poor fuel consumption from 4AGE Silvertop

    Hey guys,

    I own a 1992 Toyota Corolla Levin GT Apex with a 20V Silvertop 4AGE.

Ever since I've bought it the fuel economy has been pretty bad, and initially so was the throttle response as it seemed to not want to go anywhere in a hurry.

In an attempt to improve the fuel economy and in the name of general maintenance I've changed the sparkplugs, o2 sensor, PCV valve amongst other things, can't really remember right now. Along with throttlebody-cleaner the response of the engine is much better and the car really zips around.

However, fuel economy is still an issue, and its actually been getting worse. For the past few months I've averaged around 14L/100km.

Most of my trips are around 5-10km city driving and I was wondering whether this, along with obviously the age of the car means that I should expect this number? I'd think it would be pretty bad for a 1.6L to be churning out those numbers.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Wow that is terrible economy. I get under 10L/100KM. Was the O2 sensor you got genuine? There was someone else on here having issues with fuel economy and O2 sensors cause it wasnt genuine.

Haha I've talked to Terra heaps ever since I bought my car (last year off Ivandude), bought a bunch of parts off him too.

Watched that video like a million times haha, changed the sensor myself.

I bought it off eBay for around $45, was told that all O2 sensors all do the same thing and the price difference is only due to the fact that its a Denso or Toyota product?

Should I invest in one of those then?

Yea the Toyota one is heated, so maybe that will have an impact on it.. all good though, planning on contacting Toyota for a price for the O2 sensor, should be around $250ish.

It is definitely running rich, even my dad comments that the fuel smell when the car is stationary is crazy. Hopefully I can fix it soon!

If its not the O2 sensor, what else should I be looking for?
