Default 3T-EU - Who else uses one?

Hi All. Just wanting to know who runs a 3TEU, has anyone bought any spare parts for the fuel injection system, are they good / bad / POS, do these respond well to turbocharging, and essentially just any useful firsthand information that I couldn't / haven't got from the Search function or through Google.

I have just bought one and from what I know it is complete and was running many years ago but from what I have read they are as rare as the proverbial and I myself have never seen a complete running example.

Hopefully there are a few learned Toymodders out there who can advise. Cheers.

I've never owned a 3teu setup but here is a couple of links with exploded diagrams may help to see if anything is missing. The important part is the air filter/ flowmeter assembly.

Thanks muchly for the detail ToyTA22. Seems reasonably complicated but from the parts it looks like I have everything. I got a big box of stuff as well as what is in the picture and it has all the loom and AFM / ECU / external fuel pump etc.......will just require me to sit down and dismantle it all piece by piece and check those diagrams.

...at least with winter here I have the time in the evenings

Hmmm interesting. Would help if I could read Japanese but may be worth it for the diagrams etc. The fact that this engine was JDM only would probably indicate that there is no English language manual out there.

    Thanks for the find 73GTV.

This all looks very similar to most other 1st gen Toyota EFI setups - Basic 'idle / load / full throttle' switch style TPS, stand alone igniter, flappy box AFM and batch injection. You could probably wire it up just like an 18RGEU and it'd run like a dream. The EFI gear is pretty reliable once you set it up and gives a bit more torque than carburettor variants. I'm not sure how you'd go turbocharging it with the standard EFI hardware but i'm sure it can be done... I'd probably look at a 22RE TPS, MAP sensor and an aftermarket ECU to run group injection.

Cheers Javal. I would say you are right on the money in regards to the simplicity of it all. It all looks pretty straightforward even to my untrained eye.

The turbo charging aspect is a long way off but that probably entails the upgrades as you suggest and then more dollars for tuning and dyno time.

I sold a manifold to Aash as changed to TG setup but he has got it running with a turbo so hit him up.

Thanks for the link Stidnam. It was nice to see a pic of it all hooked up and in a car. Good to now know someone else in Aus is running the same setup and has done what I plan to do down the track.

Callum, these things are hard enough to find full stop and I was lucky enough to get mine with a T50 and set of Genie extractors for an absolute steal. Lucky that the seller on ebay had a buy it now price as I would have been battling it out with you and at least a couple of other people I know to purchase it. He had it listed for less than a day when I jumped on it.

I'm not entirely sure why but I just find that inlet/runner setup awesome. Just the shiny chrome pipes make it look sort of look like those Alfa v6s.

That's all I have to add to this convo really.

My set up so far for a spare engine I'm building:
TA47 3T-EU efi gear with complete loom and ecu, 3T-GTE crank, exhaust manifold and ecu and 7M-GTE CT26.
Will be running low boost to keep it reliable if my other engines lets go.
The project is currently on hold at the moment due to work issues.

I've essentially got a 3T-EU in my car.
Its a 2TC block, with a 3T crank/rods/pistons, with the EFI thing from the EU, though I didn't get a fuel rail or ECU so I made a fuel rail, running RX7 500cc injectors all controlled with a Megasquirt 2.

Works like a treat, I really like it. Mine's also turbocharged and it seems to be doing well. I can only really get about 8psi through it before the clutch slips so I haven't been able to really push it.

If you have a good welder (i.e. TIG) you'd probably be better off just making a manifold. Get a throttle body off something else and just make it all fit together. A mate and I made a manifold to fit two dual-throat webbers. Took about 2 days, and an aluminium sign and pipe from the scapyard.
