    Question 20v 4AGZE dilemma - Your thoughts ??

    Hi guys,

Recently I purchased an EP71 with a 4AGE 20v silvertop turbo. The motor has done a bottom end (assumed).

Surprisingly enough, the turbo has just been strapped on (no de-comp at all) and was run that way for a while (2 years). It made 280hp @ 17 psi on E85.

Knowing that the motor needed to be fixed, I have purchased a 4AGZE.

Originally, my goal was to remove the head off the 20v and fix it to the GZE block with the GZE internals (crank, rods, pistons etc).

I have had a change of thought but....

I was thinking of possibly removing the GZE block internals (crank, rods, pistons etc) and fitting them inside the 20v motor.

Obviously, both scenarios have there pros and cons.

In addition to either scenario, i'd like to to also add cams, head studs and head gasket (the later two for piece of mind).

I'd like thoughts as to what solution people suggest ??

As for my goals, i'm building the car for grip/track work (with the occasional drag meet).

As for the turbo i will be using a GT3071R.

Power i'm aiming for around 250-300 fwhp between 15-20 psi.

I really do like the fact that GZE has 7 rib block and oil squirters but is the strength necessary for my goals ??

What scenario is more complicated ?? Which is easier ?? Which scenario suits my goals better ??

Keeping the 20v motor and using the GZE internals would be the easier option as the 20v came with plenum and exhaust manifold and oil feeds/oil drains/rad pipes would not need modifying (off the top of my head). But is placing the GZE internals into the 20v straight forward ??

Would like to get peoples thoughts and yes, I have done a search. Most threads a few years old now though.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Small port 16v (incl gze) and 20v blocks are the same 7 rib units. Silvertop 20v and small port 16v's (incl GZE's) have the same forged rods and cranks.

If u fit gze slugs into a 20v u will have an interference engine. Not a problem but if your timing slips the valves kiss the pistons.

20v turbo pistons are available for cheap. Throw in some new bearings and you're good to go.

I just did a quick search:

    http://www.aclperformance.com.au/Toy...gedPistons.htm

They look to be for 20v Silvertop Turbo ??

I'm assuming these wont have the valve clearance issues ??
