Default Nitrogen Tyre Inflation --- Is it worthwhile ---

Is it all worth the $$$$$ from what i can gather on a road vehicle NO

A link to what Bridgestone Australia think of Nitrogen Tyre Inflation

    http://www.btc.net.au/tyrecare/nitrogen.asp

    Nitrogen Tyre Inflation :

    1. Stable Tyre Pressure
    2. Better Grip
    3. Safer in all weather conditions
    4. Less frequent pressure checks
    5. Increased fuel economy
    6. Zero internal oxidisation through
    elimination of moisture
    7. Increased tyre life

Anyone using Nitrogen on there DAILY !!!!!!

Notrogen in road car tyres = teh massif ripoff!

The biggest advantage is decreased internal oxodisation, & who has ever suffered from cancerous tyres????
All the other advantages are bullshit, and the pic is supposed to explain how the smaller oxygen molecules leak through the tyre. Pffft, so once you inflate with air (21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen 1% other- someone will step in to corrct these figures to the last .000001% accuracy I'm sure ), then the 21% O2 molecules leak out, & you top it up, then there's only 4% O2 in there, & once that leaks out & you top it up there's less than 1% O2 in there.

Save your hard earned dollars & leave the nitrogen to race cars & aircaraft.

    bigworm you are wrong;
    % by volume

    Nitrogen 78.08%
    Oxygen 20.95%
    Argon 0.93%
    Carbon Dioxide 0.038%
    Neon 0.0018%
    Helium 0.0005%
    Krypton 0.0001%
    Hydrogen 0.00005%
    Xenon 8.7 x 10-6%

also, by using nitrogen, you are missing out on the free helium and hydrogen which will make your car lighter, therefore faster!!!

half of those 'advantages' sound like total bs, but i would like to hear if anyone actually does use it also.

The red valve caps that the tyre shop fits when they inflate your tyres with nitrogen are the only benefit you will get from handing over your folding

I used nitrogen in shock rebuilds at times and sometimes just good old air, no one ever could tell the difference between the two.

the only reason its used in racing and that is in endurance classes mainly, is to keep a more constant tyre temp. The diffrence it makes is in the region of .3 seconds a lap which is fine for big budget racing that keep accrate records but not in a road car. It helps to keep the wear pattern a little more uniform as you dont get as big{not much diffrence} a cold to hot tire pressure diffrence.
I had a go at the Goodyear bloke here when he tried to sell it to me.He told me all the performance benefits, sales pitching all the way. lol should have seen his eyes when i said bullshit with a handfull of waiting customers sitting there. I told him of the two big bottles i have sitting at home for racing and how it would make sweet F all diffrence to a street car explaining why. He then tells me that his customers say it has a better ride after putting it in. Then i ask" you mean they think it has a better ride because you have just put new tyres on the car". He went very red faced.
i then asked him were the advertising sign for Hyclones was kept.

i have had to say the same thing to tyre blokes many number of times, because i hate the fact the ripping people off!

    1. in most cases 90% of the time you tires will not be up to optimum temp.so there is nothing to keep constant.
    2. road going tires{exept semi slicks etc} dont fluctuate in temp as much as a soft thin layered race slick.
    3. which part of the inside of your ALLOY rim will rust. i have seen steel rims of 50 year old cars that the inside is fine and a little surface rust which is nothing to worry about.
4.the above list should really be given to the department of fair trading but i cant be stuffed. im happy if everyone on here know it is a total con job.
    5. the is prob more ive missed but im only on my first coffee!

good point! nitrogen if very important to shocks. one because of getting moister in the oil will make it foam a lot worse and the shock to not work aswell. Two it keeps a more constant temp, even in a road going car the shocks can get very hot.
