haha holy shit, how did that happen? Just poor steel?
hey timbo mine are custom inner on factory outer as well, cant beat the factory steel gears for wear. all aluminium gears like the HKS ones suffer from having the teeth wear away from the timing belt and are a recipe for disaster in my book.
thanks for the offer mate, but i dont need to copy anything. i already have a set design that i use to make cam gears for a whole bunch of different engines which are proven to work very well. there is obviously a bunch of dimensional changes between models but the overall design is the same across the range. looks like the 1G centers will be the same dimensions as my 3S ones anyway and they just get assembled the other way into the outer and some extra timing marks milled into them.
also i shudder everytime i look at the fucked HKS ones i have here, no way i would copy those lol! the teeth are worn to about half of their original height...

na the problem is they arent steel, they're aluminium. later versions are hard anodized aluminium but they still wear, it's just not the right material for the job. you would never see an alloy gear factory fitted to a motor for example. all factory gears are steel, sintered metal to be precise. it is extremely hardy and the gears dont appreciably wear even after x00,000km

oh wow, I was sure my HKS ones were steel, I will have to check...
Cheers for the info
