    Default strange wheel/brake howl/harmonic sound

    Ok guys

I am having an odd ‘harmonic/howling’ noise coming from my front left wheel.

New wheel bearings – didn’t fix it.

If I apply slight pressure to the brake pedal, the noise gets momentarily louder before disappearing. It will return some time after I get off the brakes.

Car is MA61 supra with RA60 struts, MS65 hubs, new wheel bearings, new rotors approx. 1000km old and new bendix ultimate pads. near new tyres as well.

Never head this sound until recently.

    Any ideas?

Did you put in new bearing races with the bearings as well?

Does it happen at certain speeds or constantly. Does it increase with speed?

Is your hub torqued up correctly?

It sounds like something on your disk may be rubbing very very slightly. Any obvious wear spots? If you go for a short drive and don't use the front brakes at all (use the handbrake! )
Does the disk get hot? (i.e. then it is definitely rubbing).

nah used existing races - looked all okay. can sawp hubs L-R and see if sound transfers to checl this

i think it increases with speed. heard at low speed but harder to hear at higher speed

    hub torqued correctly.

yeah that is what it seems like to me. will try that trick and see what the front rotor does.

yeah maybe even draw a line on your rotor with a sharpy and see if it gets rubbed off

I had a similar problem, I didn't change the races as well. I ended up swapping uprights as part of a brake upgrade but I think the races only have to be out by a bee's dick before they will give you problems. I'd suggest switching. The rotors are also swappable? Might be an idea to switch them if it turns out it's not the races.

Could it be sticky piston on the caliper? OR sticky slider even?

You should always use the supplied races with a new bearing, always! Its like buying a kfc burger combo and chucking out the burgur and pop corn chicken. even if you didnt need to, putting new parts in is better then chucking them out!
