Default Widest wheel width and offset combination for ta22

    Hey everyone

my names Alex and im pretty new on here, so i dont know whether i have posted this in the right forum

i own a 72' celica and i am in the market for new wheels for when its done.
i currently have my eyes on a set of bbs replicas, but i am looking for the widest possible wheel(most dish as possible) i can fit without flares or problems and every thread ive found has not been as specific.

    the wheels i am looking at are 15" x 8" +15 offset and the other set is 16" x 9" +15

first of all, will the 16 x 9"s fit at all?

next question is, will i fit the 15 x 8"s all round?

any help would be appreciated including suggestions for the perfect size, width and offset wheel!

    thanks guys

i have a stock 73 ta22 with 15x8's +20 with 225's on the rear and 195s on the front and that's the absolute maximum without mods to the car, and adjustable panhard rod fixes the slight scrubbing issue in the rear when going over bumps, rims were simmons f90s

im currently running SSR Longchamps, 15x7.5 +10 all round with 195 (f) and 205(r) and they fit beautifully

    with the simmons f90s

these were with 205's on the rear

    with the big sexy 225s

and this is why 225's on a 15x8 +20 rim wont fit on the front

    hope that all helps

    Cheers,
    Callum

Alex, for a set of four inter-changeable (front / rear) wheels, my experience with 73/74 TA22's is that a 7" rim with an offset of between +2 to +10 is a reasonably good fit. Bigger offset will start catching at the front on full steering lock. Much less offset and you are getting close to the guards at the rear. Sounds like Callum is happy with 7.5" +10's - I've not tried any with these measurements, but I can see that it would work, but presumably pretty snug. Any bigger than this, and you'd need to be running different wheels front/rear, and/or rolling guards or messing with suspension parts. I have read previously that the '72 needs a slightly smaller wheel than the 73-75 (some minor difference in body/suspension), but don't have specifics, and I can't speak to this from my own experience - just something to be aware of before you fork out $$ for a set of wheels.

    Cheers,

You might also want to check out the thread here on Toymods dedicated to the whole wheel tyre size conundrum on the early Celica's. The thread contains links to wheel and tyre size calculators. All well explained and all you need is a tape measure to check a couple of dimensions on your car. Being new to Toymods you are probably not aware of the search function available within the forum. At the top of any page check out the top red line and the white box at the right hand side, type in your info search data and press the little magnifying glass icon.

    cheers Chuck.
