Clean the surface to remove oil etc and then gasket goo. Acetone works well and doesn't leave a residue. Loosely put the cover back on and let the goo cure overnight and then tightened it down a bit and see how you go.
1974 TA 22 with 2TG motor.
Head Front Cover with 2 bolts.
Its weeping oil from the cover on the front of the motor, it's held on by two bolts, I have tried Toyota gasket, home made thicker gasket, Blue stuff, Orange Stuff, Grey stuff, the cover is flat, not bent or warped and it's bloody annoying.
Any ideas?
Cheers Richard

Thanks for the reply, I tried your suggestion last night, cleaned it up using acetone, even got out the magnifying glass to see if there were any cracks or scratches in the head or the plate, none found, put on the Blue goo, replaced just on the first threads, nipped it up this morning, started the motor..................and it's still the same.
I had a suggestion from a bloke who has an old 1930 Austin, he gets this 1.5 mm thick gasket material from America, tells me it works wonders, so I have sent for that.
See what happens.
Thanks again.
Get a tube of Threebond liquid gasket , make a gasket out of cork gasket material, tighten bolt straight away.

Thats what I use - combination cork/rubber gasket material 1.5mm thick then both sides of gasket coated with thin layer of gasket sealant (locktite no3). Let the sealant dry to tacky condition then torque up plate to head.
Dont overtighten the bolts holding the plate. 1.0 to 1.5 kg-m.
Thanks for all the replies, the instructions on the Blue Goo is to wait for an hour, then tighten up, so I thought overnight may be better, I may as well wait till the Gasket Material arrives, then do as you suggest, we have Loctite No3 in the shed.
It has baffled me, is there pressure in the timing chain cover? or does the oil accumulate behind this front head cover, then just weep out?
Thanks again.
Oil is only being flung off the timing chain onto the back of the plate so its not under high pressure.
Remember if you over tighten the bolts the plate will be stressed and the gasket seal compromised.
Fixed, I put the plate on a drill press base and it rocked, not flat, distorted around the bolt holes, not much, hammered them flat, put thick gasket and Locktite, sealed.
Thanks for everyones help.
