    Default W58 to R154 question

I am fairly sure the r154 is a bit longer than the w58 so,

can anyone tell me the distance on a r154 from the start of the bellhousing (lower part) to the center of the rubber gearbox mount? Want to know if i can re-use the w58 crossmember by simply adding some angle iron on to it moving the crossmember back. Assuming the rubber mount bolt pattern is the same or can be swapped?

    Thanks

Same mount, and from memory same position as the w58, r154 is maybe an inch longer?

I found that for my car (GX81) had multiple sets of threaded holes for the gearbox crossmember and with the R154, it used the rear most bolt holes and the W58 which was next from the rear. Its about an inch or slightly more as dneg says, but I am pulling the box off this weekend so can get you the exact measurement you need.

Given that, both of my comparisons are with different engines and mounts so there may be slight differences there.

thanks guys, the car in question is a ke70 so no extra holes to move the crossmember up unfortunately. that would be great if you could get me some measurements big zop when you get the box out

    cheers

I got 59.5cm from the bellhousing to the centre of the mount.

Also, dont forget there are another threaded hole set you could bolt the mount to make it go forward and also reversing the rubber mount brings the crossmember forward a little bit too. That said, a couple plates to move it back wont hurt especially if you need to space it down for driveshaft angle or to clear the tunnel.

How does a R154 fit in a KE70 trans tunnel anyway?

W58 fits fine, need a little love tapping for the bellhousing. I haven't had an r154 + 1jz in the ke70 yet, I had a 4g63 + r154 in my ke70 few years back with no problems but the engine was alot further forward. So assume it will just be the bellhousing again that will be the problem.

R154 has to few different bolt hole locations on the mount and the rear of box.

    Front of bellhousing to mount centre = 590, 600, 610, 620mm
    Rear of bellhousing to mount centre = 420, 430, 440, 450mm

i couldnt fit the r154 bellhousing into my ke70 tunnel with the 1JZ with out modifing the tunnel. looked like the box itself would fit with out to much hassel.

ive now cut the whole tunnel out and moved the motor back into the firewall and no longer using the tunnel at all.
