    Default A540E / ES300 Question.

I supplied a used A540E Transmission to fit a 1994 ES300. The Customer is now telling me the transmission will not automatically select first gear, when the selector is in the "drive" position.
It takes off in second, then drives normally through the gears up into overdrive. First gear can however be selected by locking the shifter in "1".

Asked all the usual questions.. "did you adjust kickdown and shifter linkage correctly"? Mechanic assures me he has. also ran a scan tool over it and no codes...

My question is, does this model ES300 come equipped with a "snow" or "slippery" setting that will not let the transmission select first gear?

The gearbox was replaced due to not shifting any higher than second gear (IE it would start in first, shift to second and then not go any further up the gears).. any thoughts much appreciated..

Did a little research .. found that these cars do have a snow switch.. have sent the information through to the mechanic.. lets see what happens now..
