usually neg rep seems to be closely followed by a PM from the person....

On my user CP all the reps have a little green box to the left and positive comments... except one. It has a grey box to the left and no comment at all. I PM'd the guy to see if it was +ve or -ve , and if -ve, then why? I didn't get a reply.

does the grey box mean neg rep? because without a comment or contact from the "rep-er" i cant tell whether is supposed to be +ve or not.

I had a look at the post it was linked to and i can't see why it would invoke either +ve or -ve rep either.

to be prefectly honest..... as there are a lot of dumb ass people out there with huge rep, who post crap and obviously there are mates that just +rep eachother to get their rep up while somebody like me who is genuinely knowledgeable and doesnt whore the forums everyday stays on low rep, i cant honestly be bothered to put my car in the showcase or go on about how good it is ... every chance i get i just jump on here and go thru tech and try to help people, and i get no +rep do i?? must be too busy running my Toyota performance workshop or something..

excuse the whine , and no doubt i will get -rep all over the shop and likely even get booted from the forums but i think its a good idea if you fit the bill and everyone gives rep all the time, but hell whos gonna sit there on every post they read and make a comment on every persons post.


edit: after reading this ive gone into CP and had a look at my reps, the SAME person has neg repped me like 5 times within a couple of hours from the same thread, which he created to flame me. THE SYSTEM IS CRAP , this is allowing people who badger and have something against another person to beat them down and make them look shit.

The same person can't neg rep you for the same post, and definitely not 5 times in a couple of hours. Can only post I think 15 rep a day and there must be rep to 10 others before you can rep the same person again. Since you have under 30 rep you shouldn't even be able to see who is repping you.
Having said that, I just neg repped you for having a For Sale item in your sig.

adsport. before you complain about the rep system remove the for sale item from your sig. it has been covered vefore, your sig. is bigger then some of the replies here, if you are helping people then it is up to them to give you the rep for it, if no one gives you rep then tuff luck try again next time.

the people that have large rep numbers are those that actively contribute to the club/forum as a whole, i know some memebgers arent that technical in knowledge but when they can help they help, they organise cruises, organise outings for the club, there is more to just posting tech things to getting rep.

also you sure its the same person that has neg repped you everytime? unless your a club member, or they left their name in the comment i dont see how you would know who has given you rep.

and like i say in every reply about people that complain about the rep system, if you have an issue with a neg rep that has been left if there is no valid reason PM joshtix, mos or admin and they can look into it/remove if needed i think

The system isn't crap what is crap is someone making up rubbish and claiming it as fact. There are two things that anyone who bothers to understand the rep system knows negates your claims and seriously degrades trust in the information you provide.

You claim that "the SAME person has neg repped me like 5 times within a couple of hours from the same thread, which he created to flame me." however this is not possible. Unless that person is an admin they can only give 15 rep votes a day and there must be ten different people in between the times they rep the same person. The other thing that negates your claims is that you are on low rep and are not a member of the club and therefore have no way to see who left the rep comments for you. Even though you have no proof of who left the comments you have no qualms about blaming one person for it.

This is a classic case where the reputation system is exactly that a measure of your reputation on the forums. Several people strongly disagreed with the way you handled yourself in that thread and made it clear to you.

Also remove the advertising from your signature or your rep will continue to decrease.

Do you think that you are the only one who can read rep comments. I looked at your rep comments before replying to this thread. You were neg repped by 5 DIFFERENT people for that thread. Not one of them included their email address in the rep comment that is stored by the vbulletin software.

Honesty is generally the best policy. Especially if you're trying to protect your integrity.

I wouldnt neg rep you for your views, however the rep system is here for a reason, one of which is to stop people using the forums as a free classifieds service as you are doing in your signature. Being able to post in the classifieds is a reward for contributing, hence the reason why posting for sale items in signatures is not allowed. (not too mention the size and colour!)

The rep system seems to carry alot of weight on Toymods so it's unlikely posting complaints in the forum is going to have any effect. I agree that the rep system is flawed for exactly the reason adsport pointed out. Mates +ve rep each other cos they're mates, not cos their input is necessarily especially useful. They also -ve rep people that "annoy" their mates, or as a sign of solidarity against a particular post/thread. Admin can't stop that so in the end, unless you are in the "club", your rep rating can seem disproportionately low compared to the amount of useful info you post.

Bottom line though, don't post info for +ve rep. do it cos you have the info and want to share it. AND, if you do value your rep (i said if) don't post opinions in threads where people are likely to get asshurt about your opinion.
