Default Justification for Oil Cooler on 4age

    Hey all,
I got a new motor from a mate of mine for my ae92, and noticed that it didn't have provisions for an oil cooler. I would need to swap the sump and sandwich plate over but I do have everything I need.

I was wondering how difficult it was to replace a gasket if there was one in the sandwich plate?

Would it be worth installing the oil cooler. My car is used as a daily/weekender project car.

    Thanks in advance.

Unless your tracking the car, no
Mine never went over 100c on the street, could get it to 110c flat stick but that's nothing to worry about if your running any half decent brand name oil
On the track I was hitting 130c+ which is bad though.

thanks mate. How hard were you going to get it to 110c? Would a hot day effect the oil temp quite considerably? I am curious to see what sort of temperatures i'd get with the oil cooler under the same circumstances.

Well, considering that the low-end 4A-F have a cooler as STD I quess that factory justified the expense fitting it.
Sure, the engine will survive without it but since you can get the parts from any Corolla why not to install it?

Which model sandwich plate do you have, the OEM model that bleeds into the sump? By the way these have an O-ring to seal them off to the block and are usually quite reusable

my all-trac has the cooler... but no other USA model 4AF powered AE9x came with an oil cooler standard... I can't speak to other markets.

Concerning an oil cooler... it is well worth the money ($400.00 give or take)

What!? Here when summer degrees rarely exceed 25ºC the oil cooler is standard equipment!
Maybe it's the Germany market that forced the cooler.
    Many car manufactories would be
happy without the German no speedlimit Autobahns! The demand of full throttle 2 hour autobahn driving is far away from in city driving..

i personally wouldnt bother with the PITA factor of fitting the oil cooler for a daily/weekend project car.
A lot of effort and fucking around on an engine that really doesnt have cooling issues in stock form.

Thanks Witzl. Its a pretty frustrating job having to get the sandwich plate and run the lines, not to mention changing the sump over etc. Especially since I want to try get the car going soon its one less thing to go wrong and worry about atm haha
