[QUOTE=Esteban]Stu! you're crazy, but thanks for the info![QUOTE]

bah, if you want a perfect polish, i can tell you how well... at least perfect up to maybe 50,000x magnification but the process is still valid... you can see 3micron scratches on metal with the naked eye, and 1 micron will still preferentially reflect light in certain directions...

hmm.... i wonder if 1/4 micron colloidal silica would work with glass.. also being silica.. since it uses partial chemical action also......

all these "polishing pastes" etc are just different size particles of different materials, with certain chemicals thrown in to accelerate the process depending on the material being polished

Thumbs down Re: Early Celica Glass Window Restoration/Replacement

heh stu, you are teh original nanometer-nerd!

Ok, i'm totally at a loss now. Nobody has called me back. Hopefully this can just be put down to good-old-aussie apathy combined with christmas-shenannagans. I'll chase them next week (telstra xmas party tomorrow, woohoo! paid to get drunk!)

I'll stock-take my glass this weekend, and pick the best out for polishing. The demister on one of my rear screens is actually in working condition (when i say working, it has a normalish resistance, I didnt have a fog machine to test it properly) i think this is because it has been protected for a long time by the tinting that was covering it.

Hopefully someone will call back with good news next week

Then all I'll need is some decent suction caps to attach the glass to my workbench/saw-horses for polishing... hmmm

You should be able to just stick it on a couple of blocks of wood with dense foam over the top. There should be no need to press hard on the surface, the compound will do the job for you. Correct me if im wrong on that one stu.

Still no calls back from Nova, or Obrien. Don't know if its worth hunting them up before the end of the week, the whole country has closed down already. Stupid christmas.
